@UlrikNyman@mastodon.social @jaredwhite@indieweb.social LLMs are non deterministic, so you can't know what it's doing and it potentially does different things when you run it a second time. They have no concept of architecture or design, just what is the statistically most likely next symbol. They are extremely inefficient because they have to re-read the whole codebase for every output token. Overuse encourages de-skilling, so you become more dependent on the LLM

@andrew@social.hodgson.io @davidgerard@circumstances.run but the glasses are designed and sold more as a spying tool than a disability aid. Why not make the camera more obvious so people know they might be being filmed? It doesn't have to look bad, just obvious. Besides, even if the user isn't spying on people with their creepy glasses, you can be pretty sure Meta is

It was Meta's choice to make the camera discrete. In theory they could have made a mistake in assuming people couldn't hide the notification light, but if that was the case they should have been required to fix the problem.

Should they be screaming in existential dread, and then photograph that to post online? What could they personally, realistically, do to help? They're clearly not in an evacuation order. For all you know they're horrified at what they're seeing, but they're presumably on holiday and want to try to enjoy themselves as best they can in the situation

@bagder One of my all time favourite Wikipedia quotes is that the Year 2038 Problem page used to say

64-bit time_t would introduce a new overflow on December 4th, 292,277,026,596. This is generally not considered to be a pressing issue.

Hooray! The #PeakDistrict has been given government approval (and funding) for a trial run of public transport with regular, frequent, and connecting schedules inspired by Switzerland.

Even urban public transport in the UK is bad at connections. In the past, buses in the Peak District have been labelled as "connecting" with an hour's wait, no bench or shelter. This could be fantastic.

@0xabad1dea A few years ago I was talking to someone on top of a mountain in Norway. She apologised for her English not being very good, so I asked where she was from: Germany. So I switched to speaking German. Then she asked where I'm from, and I said I'm from the UK. "I thought your accent sounded British, but then I thought, British people don't speak other languages!" She said 😅

@robpumphrey@mastodonapp.uk @JdeBP@mastodonapp.uk Apparently the official diversion for cars is via Ringinglow Road (AKA National Cycle Network route 6), then squeeze down The Dale into Hathersage. I have questions... Sure, driving along Ringinglow Road is usually faster than the A625, but can it handle all that extra traffic? Why not divert cars along Eccy Road? Why not send them down the straighter and wider Ringinglow Road and set up traffic lights to help with the awkward acute junction just above the Millstone Inn?

I started wondering about how dates could go wrong in D&D

She spilt food down herself. He tried to impress her by cleaning it up with Prestidigitation, but messed the spell up and set her clothes on fire.

It was all going well, until one of them prayed and their god made his/her disapproval known.

@alberto_cottica I haven't been there but I'm planning my own trip to the area. Do you know that Euskotren doesn't appear in journey planners? What I've read suggests that Hendaye is usually the faster route for north west Spain, and I'm not surprised planners are sending you via Madrid on the high speed lines. I did get routes further north with some effort and searching different sites, but AIUI Renfe doesn't show journeys with more than one change, and some journeys I found include Avlo.

We've been down at least one player for a while, so instead of rebalancing encounters I gave them a choice of pregen characters from the iconics (which I kept calling "ionics")

Kyra spent most of the session casting buff spells on whoever was holding her character sheet at the time 😆

I heard about these benefits when smartphones became common. I think it would be better if the lens was surrounded by something to make it stand out (e.g. black lens on a white background), so you can always see if someone is wearing camera glasses. It would feel less clandestine, but I don't know how to deal with people putting stickers over them

The question is what's changed now. Are there significantly more people doing it? Is that because glasses like this make it easier or would they do it anyway? Cultural change that makes people think they'll get away with it? Or has it actually not changed that much but there's a greater perception of it as a problem?

But the Rust policy adds more details and explanations

What a co-incidence to hear #AnnaCalvi on #BBC6Music today, after her first album came up on random play on my commute yesterday. I stood on the station platform for a couple of minutes to revel in the ending of Love Won't Be Leaving before continuing to the office.

I must check out some of her more recent work.
