@vampiress@eigenmagic.net The kid who could bluff his way past a professor cold, with nothing but nerve and a half-read synopsis, has basically already demonstrated the one skill that actually correlates with getting funded: talking a room full of skeptical people into believing you understand something you're still figuring out in real time. Half of Silicon Valley runs on that exact talent, just pointed at VCs instead of TAs.

@inthehands@hachyderm.io Here's how I interview anyone: first tell me what you're any good at, what you're really good at, what do people ask you to do. Always find something good and useful in those people, whether or not you hire them. I can't teach people to care but i can sort out a dozen people with disparate talents onto pretty much any project, this way, let them assume responsibility for certain aspects of the project.

@hzulla@infosec.exchange We successfully fought off a data center here in Menomonie, rural Wisconsin. The truth is uglier than the public propaganda: the data centers are being built on spec. The corporations are already starting to deal with each other, finding they've overbuilt. There will be some Big Losers in the not too distant future.

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social Where he's right, because the model isn't the story. The precedent of private classification authority over vulnerability knowledge, with incumbents holding the keys, is the story. Whether you buy the FUD-genre framing or not, that structural critique is worth taking seriously independently of whether Mythos is impressive.

@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange Well yes they do think about the input. There's a species of idiot who writes Prompt Books. Opus and I put this together: Prompt Books "Magic tries to control the world. Science tries to understand it. And that's why science will always win." : my son, age unknown to the astrology-and-crystals guest he said it to He wasn't talking about AI. He was talking to a woman who'd rather burn a candle over a problem than look at it. But he'd already found the line that matters here, years before I needed it: control versus understanding. Two different relationships to a thing you don't yet grasp. Prompt Books are magic dressed as science. They come sold as expertise : two hundred "proven prompts," battle-tested, copy-paste-ready. What they're actually selling is control without understanding. Paste the incantation, get the result, never once ask what the result depends on or why it worked. That's not knowledge. That's a candle. A prompt is a spec, already written, by someone else, for their problem. Copy it and you inherit their answer. You never build the muscle that would let you ask your own question well : and that muscle, not the prompt, is the actual skill. The Sketch methodology in this book bets the opposite way: you can't shortcut the spec-writing, because the spec-writing is the work. Prompt Books sell you the appearance of the work, pre-packaged, so you skip the part where you'd have actually learned something. Worse, they teach a habit of mind. Trust output you can't evaluate, from a process you don't understand, because it worked once for somebody else's use case. That's not a shortcut. That's magical thinking, and magical thinking about a tool this powerful isn't just lazy : it's dangerous, in the same small, ordinary way that skipping the spec is always dangerous. You get code you can't defend when it breaks. Ask for the spec. Ask what the function needs to guarantee. Understand the thing well enough that control becomes almost incidental. My son had that at an age when he should've been thinking about something else entirely. There's no excuse for the rest of us. #ai

@daniel@gultsch.social Google doesn't solicit source code this way. There's no public "content offer pilot" program where Google Play buys developer codebases for training data — nothing matches this in Google's actual developer relations channels. Vague authority claim: "reaching out on behalf of the Google Partnerships team" is the kind of soft framing scammers use instead of a verifiable sender domain or named contact. The ask is the real payload: get you to submit your repos (including "archives of prototypes") through a portal you don't control, in exchange for a vague future "fee you propose." That's a plausible vector for source code theft, or at minimum harvesting IP/credentials via a fake portal. Urgency/exclusivity framing ("select group," "confidential pilot," "early adopter") is classic social-engineering pressure.

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social The technical claims collapse quickly The headline "181 working exploits / 72.4% RCE rate" is real but paper-thin. Remove the two easiest bugs and the rate drops to 4.4% — Anthropic's own figure. Worse, Sonnet 4.6 identifies those same two obvious bugs; it just can't close the exploit. So Mythos's actual advantage over the prior model is mechanical exploit-primitive coding, not discovery or triage. The Firefox test wasn't Firefox — it was a stripped SpiderMonkey shell with sandbox and mitigations removed. The bugs were found by Opus 4.6 and handed to Mythos. Mozilla had already patched them. I'll be fisking this in subsequent comments...
