@inthehands@hachyderm.io I remember when OpenAI released the ChatGPT 4 model a couple of years ago and someone over there was like … ‘oh noes, we may have created a monster… good thing we have our dedicated *Safety* team to try and keep the chains on the Beast…’ and then the Chinese cloned it with ease and soon both the Safety team, the non-profit, and the AGI talk faded into hazy nostalgia.

@glyph@mastodon.social @jalefkowit@vmst.io Even after all of the ill that has befallen already, it flabbergasts me that we now have someone choose this time to take one of the most devastating critiques of fascism and offer it up in an oligarchy-friendly form to make a buck.

@gregeganSF It boggles the mind to conjecture that there exists in the multiverse a timeline in which Donald Trump says things which are actually true.

@User47@vmst.io Essentially performative, the percentage of anyone trying this is negligible and training data will be sanitized for obvious garbage before being used. And the models are already highly capable, you’re not going to make a model stupid with some Markov nonsense pages.
I think vocal pushback by a lot of people is a lot more effective at trying to take a stand against the overuse of AI.

So… “your data is safe even if the server is breached” and also “nothing can prevent data compromise if an attacker controls the server”. Subtle difference, I guess - maybe your vault is uncrackable if the data leaks/is stolen, but the actual worst case threat model is where an attacker has backdoored your infrastructure. (2/3)

@julian As someone who’s been on Fedi a lot longer than you I feel confident in saying that this is a terrible take. The cranks and HOA are a distinct minority and get pushback all the time. I find it extremely tiresome to have posts like this continuing to push this narrative of ‘Fedi sucks’ because it’s cheap engagement 😑

The only way to win is not to play - and 1Password removed the ability to have local vaults in order to increase shareholder value. I cringe every time I see that page of theirs that proudly claims that “1Password has never been breached” because the headline revealing a massive 1Password breach is simply inevitable. (3/3)

@0xabad1dea@infosec.exchange I feel certain that FileVault also has some kind of magic bypass. Either of the ‘haha nobody will ever discover the arcane incantation needed to put this developer test mode’ or more likely requested by a three letter agency.
Just discovered that the Elgato Stream Deck app constantly sends and receives data even with auto-update disabled. I have no network widgets enabled on the Stream Deck. And by constantly I mean continuously, I can’t even comprehend what it thinks it is doing 😡
Just added a rule in https://objective-see.org/products/lulu.html to block that noise.

"At present there’s no practical method for a user to verify the public key they’re encrypting data to belongs to their intended recipient. As a consequence it would be possible for a malicious or compromised 1Password server to provide dishonest public keys to the user, and run a successful attack. Under such an attack, it would be possible for the 1Password server to acquire vault encryption keys with little ability for users to detect or prevent it.” (1/3)
