@markwyner@mas.to @zrail@hachyderm.io @omgdotlol@social.lol Tbh I’m looking to migrate from Bitbucket, not GitLab, but the idea is the same and I presume others have the same issue. I’d also like something off-site since I don’t really have a homelab. I found something before but don’t remember what it was. Thanks for the rec! I’ll look it up.

@samerfarha@mastodon.social @fedward@distraction.party I use nextdns right now, but if I could in-house it to my UniFi… why not? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ NextDNS also doesn't seem to do so well at blocking ads in YouTube, and I expect other services like Tubi (which I don't use anyway).

I took my kids with me when I brought my mom to Union Station via the metro. They asked why there were soldiers in camo with guns in the stations. DC is an occupied territory.

Sometimes automating things leads to dumb outcomes.

I was on I-66 westbound, which turns into a toll road at 3 PM. I crossed the last gate at 15:00.36 and the system charged me a $0.65 toll. I have no idea why it didn't automatically deduct from my EZPass, since it was in the car, and they didn't find and charge the account even though it is linked to my license plate.

It will cost more for them to print and mail the violation and receive and process the payment than the toll is worth. (1/2)

It's got great MD support with live preview, and the Python support is absolutely top notch. Since internally parses code to its own PSI (which is an abstract syntax tree), its "knowledge" and understanding of the code itself is miles above anything with a tree-sitter or LSP. The refactorings it can do are borderline magical. (1/2)

@mwichary@mastodon.online @gruber@mastodon.social @mjtsai@mastodon.social The utter irony is that even though I couldn't unlock the phone and all iCloud services were disabled (Messages still hasn't synced), I COULD access stuff through USB. Granted, I was using a "trusted device,” but I could download photos and use the phone as a tethered hotspot. I probably could have pulled files off its disk if I had thought to connect to it in Finder. Yet I couldn't unlock the damn phone. Because of a reboot.

Apropos of my just finishing the Agent Carter show. I'm working my way through the MCU, and WTF is up with the end of Agent Carter? They just drop the ending like that? I was hoping at *least* she would get with someone, need to go into protection, change her last name to Coulson, then have a kid. But no. It just ends with a stereotypical character dismissal, a smooch, and a murder. Then nothing. So disappointing and unfulfilling. It didn't even really advance the plot of the universe. Oooh. Dark matter. We got that in Thor 2.

My old Mac Pro won’t start from the macOS partition, so I’m trying to reinstall macOS. I’ve booted from the installer, and I’m using Terminal to copy files to another drive so I can wipe the main one. I set a cp * going and walked away. When I came back, the computer was… asleep… mid file copy. At least it’s continuing, but it’s not done yet.

Is there any command that will keep macOS from sleeping? This is in Terminal in the high sierra installer, so I don’t have access to system preferences/settings.

@fedward@distraction.party I main Vivaldi when I use Linux (and it's my "need chrome-based" choice on Mac). I'm not sure there's a good WebKit browser for it. Zen wasn't on my radar last time I spent time on my Linux box, either, so I'll give that a go there at some point, too. I keep it around as a Gecko fallback on my Mac should I ever need one.

Fucking autocomplete. I'm trying to help my ex-wife troubleshoot a wifi issue at our old house. Every time I type netgear it autocorrects to nether, and every time I type orbi it autocorrects to orbit. Even though I've been typed and corrected those two words dozens of times over the last few hours.

ProTip: If you need to dial an extension regularly, in your phone's address book (or tel: URL), add a semicolon and then the extension. Your phone will pause and present a button to have it send the rest of the numbers. If you know the length of the pause, you can add one or more commas and it will play the tones automatically after the pause duration. I have jury duty and have to call every night for two weeks, typing in my 9-digit identification number each time. I have an event setup with a link `tel:;`. Tap oncde to call. Tap once more to ender ID. That's it. Works like a charm.

@mwichary@mastodon.online @gruber@mastodon.social It turns out this was that Stolen Device Protection thing @mjtsai@mastodon.social likes to complain about and that I was silently opted in to. The thing is, iOS 26.4.2 came out April 22, and I updated THAT DAY. I got the "Your phone has been updated" flow when I installed it. Why, then, when I reboot on May 5, does it give me the “Your phone has been updated” flow? A full 2 weeks later? Does the phone not actually restart after an update? If I had been camping or something I would have been completely without recourse. I should be able to reboot my phone and still have a working phone. This was borderline unconscionable. 😡

Fucking Xcode. When I manually trigger a build, the build succeeds. When I try to run a test, the build fails. I go to the build error, and the little red failure triangles DISAPPEAR AFTER A FEW SECONDS. And still a manual build succeeds but building to run the tests fails, and the errors are gone. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK. Turns out I have a file that somehow got added to the test build target. Would be nice if there was some way to surface that error instead of, you know, MAKING THE ERROR MESSAGES DISAPPEAR.

They didn't collude with Apple to screw consumers (outright). They colluded with Apple because Amazon was screwing them over so hard and it was the only way they could gain any leverage.

My god the predictive code completion model in #Xcode is bad. It hallucinated a parameter to a parameterless function I just wrote.

On a class called Config I have

func transitions() -> [Transition] {
…

Then in another class I wrote:

let transitions =

And it autocompleted to

let transitions = config.transitions(for: config.countdown)

WTF Xcode. At least countdown is an actual property on Config, but WTF.

@fedward@distraction.party Ah. My daughter streams on Twitch and I have some meetings on Google Meet, both of which are shit in Safari, so I use Vivaldi for those and whenever Safari else doesn't seem to work well *cough*makerworld*cough*, which is fortunately increasingly rare. Haven't touched Chrome itself in years, nor do I have any desire to again. I could probably use FF or Zen instead of Vivaldi, but since most sites are “optimized for Chrome" I figure a chromium-based browser is probably less of a hassle.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@b3ll/116494951914718777 From the blog: “Last year, we updated our TV experience for the first time in more than a decade.” I hate, Hate, HATE the new Netflix interface on Apple TV. I'm sure a lot of love and engineering went into it, but JFC I want to see what's in my watchlist, not ONE GIANT THING and 1.5 other things. I avoid Netflix now because it's so painful to use. If my Netflix subscription wasn't subsidized by T-Mobile I would drop it just because of the new interface despite any content locked into the service I want to watch. I hope the mobile stuff is better.
