@swetland @wren6991 @whitequark Don’t put Tauri and Wails next to Electron as if they’re the same thing. Electron ships an entire outdated browser per app, the others use your OS built in html renderer. These are not the same and consequently have a very different RAM usage.

@GossiTheDog @SuperDicq It’s a common mistake, but what you are referring to Mastodon servers is actually an interconnected network of multiple implementations of the activitypub protocol, or as I’ve come to call them the Fediverse. I for one run this GoToSocial ( written in a completely different programming language than mastodon ) on a 14y old computer.

You are using a car? How can you justify all the bad impact of this.

Ah yes let’s make a list of copium, against actually radically changing our society for the better. As soon as people get a car they start complaining about traffic, road quality, speeding cameras, those complaints only further car dependency.

@phaedr0s @socketwench But you can? Make analytics on the amount of rss url requests your website receives. Hash the ip address, utm the rss button and you have a general idea on how many people read your site. Any more tracking seems overtly creepy (hotspots, multi site profiling)

@mjg59 @pkal @chris_evelyn […] e.g. robots.txt. The Apertus LLM was trained on web documents crawled by CommonCrawl while respecting standard machine-readable opt-out by websites. In addition, data from websites which have recently opted out by specifying at least one of the common AI crawlers, at the time of January 2025, was removed. Crucially, such removals were also applied retroactively in all earlier crawls since 2013 https://huggingface.co/swiss-ai/Apertus-70B-2509/blob/main/Apertus_EU_Code_of_Practice.pdf #apertus #ai

@maid I don’t have asbergers, I love programming. I don’t love the techbro neo-lib high competitiveness or the idea that ai will shrink the job market. I don’t love the cloud migration that occurred 10y ago or the ai agent push now. The zuck mantra of move fast and break things is very much alive, sadly. It’s a political mindset not an asbergers vs normies. Tones of non normies work(ed) for aws, google, facebook, exxon, anthropic, jpmorgan. And how is there no programmers union?

George Orwell - Wigan Pier: he describes the coal mining industry in a firsthand account, working conditions, union strikes with listenings of expenses, median income and miners bathhouses.

@jbz@indieweb.social With how the ux hasn’t improved after 5 years, I’m 100% sure anything would be better, with a quarter of element’s funding. The priority matrix (& governments that fund it) do not align with what gamers (& gamer community mods) want: custom emojis, easy compose file self hosting, no csam infection by federation (see xmpp vs matrix) , lightweight, e2ee unnecessary for public spaces, dogshit encryption key onboarding, voice/video channels ootb, donation/vip tiers (image+video+streaming gets expensive)
