Every time I see the thumbnail for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (as a small thumbnail, not zoomed in), I always think the character in the top left is wearing one of those extreme aerodynamic cycling helmets. But it's just a hand.

@aeva I haven't tried it, but here's software that can put images on a cd. https://hackaday.io/project/186303-burning-pictures-on-a-compact-disc-surface It also talks about some of the calibration issues that different cd brands can cause.

Burning Pictures on a Compact Disc Surface

The first compact disc was sold in 1982, that is to say 40 years ago. This project is my anniversary tribute to this technology. No, we are not going to use it as data storage. It’s obviously impractical nowadays. Well, if you turn it this way, actually we will store some data... Not digital but rather visual and not exactly on CD but on its surface... Pick up your old CD-RW drive and some compact discs from your garage. Because we are going to burn images on a compact disk surface. With an incr

@Moosader@mastodon.gamedev.place The less 3d modelling experience you have, the easier Blender is to learn. :) It tends to throw people off because it doesn't quite work like 3DSMax, Maya, etc. But the latest versions are massively improved in usability compared to the old versions. I even now use Blender as my go to video editor rather than Davinci Resolve. :) It can do 2d animation too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngmHw0apHsI

@TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place The first modern-ish mouse look I can remember playing on a PC was Terminator Futureshock by Bethesda in 1995. True 3d indoor and outdoor levels, 3d polygon enemies, first person combat with a heap of weapons, jeep driving sections with mouse look gun turret independent of vehicle steering and flying sections in a hunter killer. Pretty cool for a year before Quake.

I was morbidly curious, so I asked chatgpt to describe the HID packet format for a Contour Shuttlexpress jog shuttle controller as a C++ struct.

Surprisingly, very detailed and accurate looking.
Unsurprisingly, fucking wrong.

I own the device, do manual HID prcoessing of it in my input lib and the HID report descriptor agrees with me.

I asked it a second time.
It changed it's mind to a 5 byte packet. But it did it by adding a wrong byte at the start. Buttons still wrong.

@MouseByTheSea@mastodon.gamedev.place @TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place I loved Cybercon 3! Massive indoor worlds, bosses that towered over you, power management, playing audio signals to control objects in the world. For 3d curved shapes, Elite 2 Frontier was great. Curved clouds and other stuff.

@TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place For dx11 apps (that are just desktop apps, not 3d) I use Imgui's dx11 backend with a tiny wrapper. Vector maths is always my own. I just took a look at ccVector. SO MANY hash define macros, it's like using the Win32 API. :) I'd prefer to stick to C++ or D where I can do int parameter templates for vector dimensions.

@eniko@peoplemaking.games @gord@peoplemaking.games @TomF@mastodon.gamedev.place The guidelines used to be a bit more strict, but currently they are: "Our expectation is that people on this instance are game developers or somehow related to that field. So you can probably expect a lot of the local timeline to be about topics related to games, such as art, design, production, prototyping, development, media and culture, shipping, etc. Writing about other things is fine too!" So all good. Aras (the admin) posts pics of his dog. :)

@eniko@peoplemaking.games @gord@peoplemaking.games I've been on here for 8 years, so far the only issue I have is 500 characters per post can be a little limiting at times. But otherwise it's all been pretty smooth sailing. I just feel guilty if I post large binaries (vids or pics) so I try to compress them a bit better.

@mcc@mastodon.social @bfod@mastodon.gamedev.place @awwbees@post.lurk.org @acegikmo@mastodon.social I never use their SDK, I directly read the HID data. The format is very simple. I made my own Unity addon for it, which works with no 3D Connexion drivers installed and adds itself to the Unity editor globally, not to a specific project. (Although they changed the HID format in newer devices, so I need one newer than my Space Pilot Pro for testing)

I installed Blender on my Steam Frame. It ran fine. :)
If I connected a mouse and keyboard, I could probably do some video editing on it.

(I'm not saying Blender on a Steam Frame is particularly usable, but it does work, which is kind of cool)

@acegikmo@mastodon.social @Kiloku@burnthis.town I did some experimenting with drawing over Unity, but it was only in the game view. I had a compute shader that drew pixels into a render texture. (The idea was to let playtesters annotate screenshots)

@hapaxia@mastodon.world The Imgur terms of service make it an iffy choice anyway: "don't use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network". It's still the place I host images I need to post somewhere, but I should find somewhere else too.
