As someone who also hates sending invoices, I get it.
For many people the point of doing the work is the satisfaction of doing good work.
Sending invoices (and the further work entailed: figuring out how much to charge, counting the hours and materials and other costs accurately, describing it accurately for an invoice in some accounting system, following up, reporting, etc.) is all a soul-muddying chore, necessary only because of the need to earn an income. It can even sap the desire to do good work.
@Sheril Many of those publicly worrying about "extinction of humans" for AI, don't mean what you or I might mean by that term.
They do not, ultimately, care about terminal extinction — about whether our species itself continues to exist or not. To the contrary, [they see it as] good, because that would indicate that we have progressed to the next stage in our evolution, which may be necessary to fully realize the techno-utopian paradise they envision.
that seems pretty obvious […] there’s no way your getting followers and support unless you’re actively present as a human being
I wish it were obvious to everyone yes. Sadly, a lot of people seem to believe they're getting blocked merely because they promote their work
when they're getting blocked because they use social media as a marketing channel, and people don't want one-way marketing crap in their feed.
It's entirely feasible to promote your work on Mastodon and engage with people as people. More creators need to do it that way.
