me 2023: i'm shocked how willing people are to catch the virus that gives you brain fog me 2026: i'm shocked how willing people are to use the machine that deskills you maybe i should stop being shocked

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko/117395630019667600 btw since i get this question a lot: buying on itch means we get almost half again as much money from your purchase compared to buying on steam

OH. right! i get it now! i get why AI is so depressing to me. because covid already shrunk my world to almost nothing, where almost all of my life revolves around socializing and watching videos on the internet (which is being ruined by AI) and creating creative works through coding (which is being ruined by AI), often using open source tools and libraries (which are being ruined by AI) i already had so little and now even that is being rotted away before my eyes

Super Lesbian Mario Fox Girls 3, aka Kitsune Tails, 35% off? It's more likely than you think! https://kitsunegames.com/kitsunetails Or help our queer studio survive the year by getting all our games bundled for $17.99 on itch (https://itch.io/s/202703/kitsune-games-fall-sale-2026) or $18.75 on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/15673/Kitsune_Games_Complete_Pack/) Bundle contents in the reply 👇

if you want kids to "go outside" instead of being on their devices how about you work to restore 3rd spaces for them instead of trying to ban them from social media

Think Super Mario Bros 3 needed more lesbians with fox ears? Well good news! Kitsune Tails is 35% off: https://kitsunegames.com/kitsunetails Or help our queer studio survive the year by getting all our games bundled for $17.99 on itch (https://itch.io/s/202703/kitsune-games-fall-sale-2026) or $18.75 on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/15673/Kitsune_Games_Complete_Pack/) Bundle contents in the reply 👇

Guys guys guys! You won't believe what happened! I saw a junior software engineer write code that not only compiles but mostly works! This is amazing, we don't need senior software engineers anymore, think of the savings! This is what you lot sound like

love that AI scraping has brought back the 56k modem dialup experience

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@lcamtuf/117335648954955882 we finally did it, we finally found someone besides nvidia who's profiting off AI

putting a little AI generated stuff in your work is like putting a little sewage in a drink: now the whole thing is sewage

very ironic to see a slopleader now complaining about "slop grenades" but it is a good term and it is heartening to see a zealot come to his senses https://futurism.com/artificial-intelligence/shopify-ceo-ai-workplace-staff-horrified-backfire from the article: Estimates found workers already waste 3.4 hours a month cleaning up the AI schlock, amounting to a monthly loss of $8.1 million for a workplace with 10,000 employees. geeh wiz it's almost like WE FUCKING TOLD YOU SO

Yes, the internet, foss, society, and the climate got destroyed. But for a beautiful moment in time we didn't even create a lot of value for shareholders because AI was never actually profitable.

It's like everyone who came on board to AI because "they can write code now!" thinks the primary argument the rest of us have is "no it can't" So I'll be the one to say it: yes AI can write code. I believe you. They can write code. It compiles. It even passes the tests that the AI also wrote. Unfortunately the code they write is shit. It's automated technical debt with built in landmines. You think people coding in C causes issues? Wait'll you see what LLM code produced on massive scale does

I'd be a lot less pissed off on a daily basis if you all were going "we've been using AI to do code reviews and it really catches a lot of obvious mistakes so long as you ignore all the times it's wrong and we've been able to speed up our code review enormously with this" Because at least you would just be ignoring the moral, ethical, and socioeconomic considerations of using AI without also simultaneously being a fucking dumbass about it

it's interesting everyone seems to be assuming i'm talking about games but i'm actually talking about anything. blog posts with AI header images, youtube videos with AI images or thumbnails, books with AI covers, music with AI cover art, etc but yes also games

bluesky added a little 1/x marker at the end of posts to show number of posts in a thread and frankly fedi needs to copy that right the fuck now edit: before you reply with "just use a server with a character limit you're happy with anything else is twitter bullshit" please consider that there may be other reasons why one might wish to append a reply to a post one wrote earlier

Writing code that compiles and nominally functions at first glance is the very first hurdle, literally the easiest thing that exists in software development. And we're supposed to take all human intervention out of the equation based on that alone? Are you fucking mad?

Watching the latest MattKC video and he shows how a CD-i controller looks a lot like an SNES controller and ... that's literally just a Gravis Gamepad! It even has the little screwhole to screw a stick into the dpad to turn it into a "joystick" That's so fucking funny how did that even happen?

when people (including supposed leftists) say stuff like "covid just isn't as much of an issue in 2026" please remember that the science is pretty clear that every single covid infection, whether you notice it or not, causes some amount of brain damage (i am subtweeting Alejandra Caraballo)

not sure if the neolibs grasp this concept but: the rules are made up actually and they can change the rules or bend them or just make up new ones (like "associate membership") to allow for the thing they want to happen to happen hope that helps

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko/117319788702789361 coincidentally DëD$↑HëT$ is the name of my metal band

the people who are operating a technology that hit its fundamental limits a couple years ago and any progress since has been a patchwork of slapped on systems to vaguely correct errors are advocating for an AI development slow down but it's not because their technology has plateaued or anything

this is a public service announcement: you can use the C preprocessor for anything you want. other languages, html, css, text files. there's nothing they can do to stop you

The fun part about old computers and consoles is that they're still there, if not physically then via emulator, and you can just decide to program for them instead of something modern for no reason other than that it'd be a neat experience and you want to And you can still make stuff people would want today

it's amazing how people with AI brain rot will boast proudly about how they don't review the code their "agents" write at all anymore like, even if you're of the belief AI can be used to write code, you *must* admit they're not 100% accurate and will get confused about simple things like numbers and bits and so sneak in incredibly hard to find bugs what are you doing about that long term? nothing? just living with a rat's nest of bugs? absolute absurd position to take

RE: https://mastodon.social/@plaguepoems/117322742767319541 remember this post when people pull out "only x people died of covid this year!" stats to convince you that covid isn't a big deal anymore

hm this seems fine

Got some good news today!!! Can't share it but yay good news

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko/117285373698238883 i'm actually curious now, have any of the hardcore "actually we don't need to read code anymore its fine" sloppers anywhere ever addressed this in a way that didn't lean on also AI generated unit tests?

Do you ever wish a divine power would smite every petty bureaucrat on the entire planet or is that just me

AI isn't the future of anything except a looming economic depression when the bubble pops

@mcc@mastodon.social yeah. I'm uh, aiming for CPU framebuffer rendering, for exactly those reasons I mean. The affine textured low res low poly PS1 aesthetic is in right now? At least that's what I tell myself

@mcc@mastodon.social anyway yeah you're right we do need a kernel. Something that goes "here's file system, video, sound, and input" and then from there things get a lot more manageable. At least for games

If you think AI is the future of code you should get some fucking help, see a professional about your issues

like. i didn't like C when i started to use it. but i warmed up to it and can see virtue in its simplicity. i can see why sometimes C is good, actually i do not expect this will happen for x86 assembly

if you're playing a game with dialogue choices and you do not meet the bar for a certain dialogue choice should the game:

has anyone tried to weaponize claims of AI to deliberately sink a creative work that didn't use AI yet?

jpeg compression artifacts are good actually. they add texture

since internet archive is posting AI promotions now maybe some people can redirect their donations to kitsune games instead, an indie gamedev studio making award winning queer games struggling with money right now. aka me https://ko-fi.com/sharkhugseniko

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko/117007911912036302 anyway developing for DOS (or other vintage hardware) gives you interesting limitations and most of the aesthetic things people are digging about You Have Died came about as a result of those limitations. so i recommend giving it a try

RE: https://mastodon.gamedev.place/@eniko/117004224062056366 AI would never generate something that looks and feels like this

Can't believe people bought into bluesky's PR nonsense and are genuinely calling paying some of their hosting bills federation

hey so, can someone explain why model collapse doesn't occur in coding AIs? because there's more and more AI code being put up on places like github so presumably AI is also being trained on that new AI generated code or does it happen and the hyperscaler jerkos just don't care

And that first 20% of the actual work has to be basically immaculate if you want to have any chance in hell of doing the remaining 80%. Anyone who has experience shipping actual fucking products can tell you that. But apparently the rules don't apply if that first 20% is done via fucking slot machine lever pulls Fucking ridiculous

@kasimir@wetdry.world I haven't. I can't watch a video right now, what is it?
