I just got a shock. I want the old design back!!! 😭 It was a matter of seconds, and the Design of #Mastodon changed. Usually, I have nothing against design changes. But if it hits me so unprepared that I think my browser has a bug ... A real bug is that I have to make an extra click for writing a post now and get a much too small pop up field down at the right (not at eye's height)! I don't count the #heatwaves in France anymore. I only look for the "coldest" nights to sleep (under 22°C) and how to survive appointments in the outer oven. At 30°-33°C, I make a happy dance because it feels cooler than up to 40°C. I have overwhelming memories when and how I planted the trees I lost to the #drought. I'm sad to have lost an outdoor season and my natural feeling of time. If you want to count: officially we are at No 5 and no end visible. #climateCrisis #ClimateDiary #ecoGrief

Try to save people from dangerous diseases. Do something to embellish their village. Give fruits from their tree. 🧵 I can’t cry as easily as I used to in former times. Watching our news footage of the fires in the south-west, the tears just streamed down my face. The persistence of the #firefighters and #rescue workers, often followed by trauma that will last a lifetime. How they are left in the lurch by a government that has cut back on everything for years and failed to act. Just like during the pandemic. I just wanted to cancel an important appointment because the extreme #heat makes me unable to go outside into that oven. Their answering machine was at the limit. They called me back: Yes, everybody wanted to cancel today but your appointment is tomorrow. It will be a little bit cooler then. If not, just call again tomorrow how you feel. I only half-heard German news. Apparently, France has lent the British an old carpet. OMG, have Brexit and politics made things in the UK that much worse? That they have to borrow old carpets? It was about the Bayeux Tapestry. 🤣 In German, the word 'Teppich' can be used for tapestry as well as for a thinned out old carpet that you use for transporting a corpse. It's the first time since I volunteer (10 yrs minimum) that our #museum has to close because of the #heat after some morning hours. The whole WE. I just got the news: no animations. The heat is too much risk for visitors and working colleagues. Heat is similar to a pandemic: it isolates people. Heat closes you up in your room. And for us, it means financial loss: the WE is our main visitor time. #ClimateDiary #heatwave #France

After the #extremeHeat in France, the danger of #wildfires is enormous. #Heatwave and #soil #dryness didn't change much for the plants this week - with "cool" 30°C and full sunshine. #Trees try to resist by getting "dried" #leaves. At a certain heat temp., the process starts at the exterieur like burnings. Then the green vanishes to the centre until #photosynthesis is stopped. If the plant can't get soon enough rain to regenerate, it can die. Food crops die before trees. #oak #ClimateDiary
