Today I wrote the words 'The End' and underlined it with several squiggly bits '~~~~~~~~' so it's official.
'Furry Inside: Being' is first-pass complete. Brain cools off for a week or two then back to the re-write of book 1: 'Furry Inside: Becoming'.
Target is mid-June for release of 'Becoming', fingers crushed.
Carrot Cake is the absolute proof that the Baking Fairy exists.
You take ingredients that are unrelated to cake (I mean, grated carrot and crushed pineapple? Seriously?)
This lumpy gloop that in no way resembles cake batter is spread across two cake pans.
Some time during the 35 minutes in the oven the Baking Fairy replaces the mess with light, moist and tasty cake!
Ultimately, of course, the cake part is just scaffolding for the cream-cheese icing which is the REAL reason anyone makes carrot cake.
Constant acceleration is a funny thing. According to back-of-the-online-calculator math, if you accelerated constantly at 6g for 40 mins, turned around and decelerated at 6g for another 40 minutes you'd be on the moon. Which is cool.
But...
Suppose you only accelerated at one-half g (plus earth gravity effect). You'd think it must take days to get there...
Yeah, it'd be a smiggle over 5 hours total.
“Niles, if this test launch is successful how long will it take to prepare the next shuttle?”
The wolf scratched the fur between his ears. “Uh… Maybe a couple of days. Maybe more because we’re starting with the one most likely to succeed so the next one might need more work…”
“And if the test fails?” asked Ryder.
“Ah… that depends how catastrophically it fails,” said Niles. “If the shuttle explodes and damages the ground station it could be weeks to repair. Or might be impossible to fix if it takes out all four lasers.”
The deer nodded again. “I see… Unfortunately I don’t think we have weeks. Or even days. A little fox tells me something dangerous is coming here to stop us. We’ll just have to trust your engineering and take the first shuttle.”
“Straight from Alpha to Gold Master and let the end users find the bugs!” Yukon clapped her hands together, grinning broadly. “Now you’re talking like a real project leader!”

“It won’t do anything to you. It’s a small utility module that you can use or ignore.” When Ryder looked unconvinced Yukon added, “I debugged it thoroughly – it almost certainly won’t kill you. … Okay, see that was a joke, please don’t look at me like that.”
Ryder sighed. “If I don’t like it will I be able to remove it?”
“Ah, good point.” Yukon closed her eyes and another gallery of emotions played over her face. She tapped her wrist-pad. “Yes. It’ll be fine. Trust me – I’m a programmer.”

“Perfect! Yes, that’s Murky,” said Niles and the boy looked like he was about to pass out from relief. “And who lives in Murky?” asked Niles.
“Humans! Ewwwww…!” screamed the class, and there were giggles and shrieks around the room.

It was my 60th birthday this week (yay me). At dinner with friends one of my older friends told me 69 is the "It's basically over" birthday.
If someone dies at 59 everyone thinks 'Oh how tragic, they died young'. But as soon as there's a 6 (or higher) number in front of their age if they die people kinda shrug - "they were old".

A small child, human, bent over a puddle arranging pebbles in patterns only meaningful to a child. Tall, faceless buildings overshadowed the stone courtyard where the youngster played. Grey light from the overcast sky glinted on rain slicked cobblestones. Mud had spattered the hem of the child’s patched and faded dress as they crouched beside the puddle. While they adjusted the positions of several pebbles the child hummed a nursery-rhyme. They giggled when they picked up one of the small rocks and tossed it away. Without turning their head the child said, “I’ve been alone for so long… so long… But now you’re here!” their voice brightened.
