@erwinrossen@mas.to @TheStoneDonkey@beige.party @Mistonas@mastodon.social I, who have a moderately good grasp of the problem at hand, and yet was surprised the other day that websites have access to your phone's inclinometer, can barely make an informed decision about my privacy here. I was degoogled for a few years, and it was quite a pain, TBH.
A normal person can't. make. an. informed. decision. It is simply out of their grasp unless they choose to spend every waking minute gathering information solely about this problem.

@maxleibman@beige.party I would actually argue that most of the positive impact of AI in my company has been outside of software development.
It's mostly small things like looking for a lost message, trying to figure out what a decision has been, summarising a thousand messages in Slack, and things like that. Sure, I still need to go check it, but at least I know where to look.
Definitely not worth the lunacy surrounding AI at the moment, but my life would be a lot harder if not for it, that's for sure.

@vicfroh@mastodon.social TBH, your aunt's drinking problem might have ruined a life or two as well. You don't have to rub it in, but I say you should totally speak ill of the dead if it's deserved.

@miffyhelen OTOH, both the fridge and the app are effectively backdoors to your home network, and collect all the information about you, which can be sold to the highest bidder. Who wouldn't want that?

@cR0w@infosec.exchange I wonder if perhaps there may be a pattern of sorts at play, maybe. 🤔

@rostiger@merveilles.town My parents have one of those! Probably not the same brand, but I'll recognize the tiny lynchpin (or whatever it is), the meat grinder sieve, and the four-spoke knife any time.

@wyatt_h_knott @cmconseils And it's just Apple, too. I use a myriad of cables daily (none of them Apple), and I haven't had one break on me in decades. The only reason for failure was the "teeth" in a few microUSB cables wouldn't come back out, so the cable wouldn't stay in the device.

@anon_opin@mastodon.social Conveniently, none of the rules apply to them, and we should all be glad that they grace us with their presence because of all the boogeymen they scare away while causing collateral damage left and right.
I wonder whom that reminds me of...

@iamMJae@mastodon.world @catsalad@infosec.exchange Unironically. My kid has a tendency to come to the bedroom halfway though the night and do a bodyslam in the middle of the bed. This way they knock, we go to their room and I tuck them back in.
