@futurebird@sauropods.win I remember a few years ago professors complaining that their students "don’t even know what a directory is anymore." Yeah, then, teach them that? If they mostly interacted with operating systems that hid file and directory structures from them, you can’t expect them to magically know those things. When I started studying in 2002, one professor showed us how to find his website from the university‘s homepage. Because that was a relatively new skill. Now you need to show people how to find a file, when they aren’t indexed and shown per app. What’s the difference?

@pheonix@hachyderm.io It is *so* annoying. Duckduckgo has a no ai search, which works as well as you’d expect. This morning, I heard of an artist and wanted to see more examples of his work. Even with “AI: hide,” about one in five images came from domains that seem dedicated to generating slop “in the style of” an artist. :blobfoxnotamused: And yeah, I could see the difference between flat art nouveau and shaded slop, but I shouldn’t need to waste my very limited energy on that. It took longer than they thought, and now that even pocket computers are better than the best human players, people still play. It’s all about the game.

I would understand if it was only to replace the annoying parts*. But software devs not wanting to code, managers not wanting to plan, etc. I don’t get that.

If all the big issues of slop machines weren’t there.

one week into a visit to Japan
after volunteering as limousine driver at a con, hanging out with the VIPs and their interpreter for three days. “No need to interpret for me, I understand Japanese well enough” was just said so M. could get a break from translating, but became more true with every hour.

Ein paar monate nachdem ich dort anfing, haben sie alle offen gehandelten von der börse zurück gekauft zu 0,41CAD iirc. Ich hatte natürlich keine insider-infos, aber wollte eigentlich aus spaß so 500€ in die aktien anlegen.

Apple didn’t want to show the files, but a couple years ago they were forced by some decision (I don’t remember what). @futurebird@sauropods.win
