When we hosted students, they were just rich kids learning English at tech, or attending university. From what we'd heard - yes, hearsay - the Iranian students were likely to consider us the house keep and treat us so 😀 We had three Chinese. They were fun, actually. The first, a young teen, had culture shock and went native. Another just sat in his room eating (he was huge - we called him Hong from Kong. Hong was his first name). Local flyboys at Williamtown RAAF are dog-fighting over Newcastle all week. Don't know if I should be comforted or concerned. First 40 years of my life were spent during the Cold War, particularly terrified as a child in the 1950s by constant talk of nuclear Armageddon. Every goddam high-flying aircraft might be from Russia and Newcastle was an obvious industrial target. A 19yo me was somewhat traumatised when, as I walked up Bolton Street Newcastle one night, a jet screamed above in low cloud, and an almost simultaneous explosion lit up the sky. Discovered a new word. Only 100 thousand or more to go. Satisficing: Decide on and pursue a course of action satisfying the minimum requirements to achieve a goal. Not an adjective, but a verb. A portmanteau of "satisfy" and "suffice." The noun is "satsificer" 🤯

Anyone else fail to get Aus MyGov SMS code trying to login? They stress you out by SMS-ing that there's a new message in your MyGov inbox (oh no what can it be!!!). Then stress you out more by NOT sending the SMS 2FA when you try to login to read it. Then stress you out by not having a "resend SMS" link. Then yet more by suggesting - as if this is how you want to spend the rest of your short miserable life - you waste it on the ever so not-simple task of creating a digital ID or a passcode... Just shoot me

I love the Netbank physical token generator that removes all the online fancy and nerve-wracking methods - as in when they fail or choose to argue. My second bank The Mutual (Maitland (NSW) building soc) also gave me one. Clearly not practical for 15 million peeps! Did look at a how to and it went on about QR codes which is probs why I bailed last time I looked at it.

Not Medical Advice... just something else to worry about. FYI, oldies. --------------------------------- I've long had irregular (skipped) heartbeats and high rate (over 100). After an operation was prescribed Metoprolol (Minax) and now it sits around 75. When I forget, it rises well above 100 and I've learned to recognise the effects. Similar to the article linked. My dear old sister in her late 80s has a pacemaker for skipped beats. She recently was having symptoms similar to those in article. The medico found her rate was way up, and was so she was similarly prescribed. What's interesting about hers is that it's remotely monitored, but no action was taken about the high rate. She had to visit the doctor for it to be addressed.
