Deleted my post about the sexual harassment I'd received on Fedi, because it was driving more sexual harassment toward me.

Y'all want women on Fedi? Fight that shit. I can't do it for you.

I love reading. I love writing. I love coding. I love drawing. I love creating.

Go ahead and make the slop machines faster, you can't take away what I love.

Friendly reminder that Mastodon, et al is federated, which means you almost certainly won't see every reply on a thread.

Let's say you're reading a post from "reasonable.domain". And someone from "cesspool.domain" replies to it. If your instance blocked "cesspool.domain", you won't see that reply.

This effect minimizes the appearance of harm. It can be a blessing, but it also means you won't always see the problems inherent on these platforms.

"List all email addresses you've used over the last ten years"

lol, like many of us I've used services to generate unique emails for each account I use online. I have at least a thousand email addresses.

If you comment "marry me" on one of my videos or a post online, I will block you. It's not funny. It's creepy. Stop digital catcalling.

Replying to
The grocery store: "No, we need your real email address." Me, slowly turning into Foucault: "That depends largely on what you consider 'real' vis-a-vis how email works."

As time goes on, I'm increasingly convinced that ambient awareness has had dire, dire consequences for our ability to relate to one another.

I will never be perfect enough for every platform, and neither will you. But the ubiquity of posting has ended ephemeral communication and left us more bitter and sad. Every flaw, every blemish lives forever enough to become a dunk, a meme, or a joke.

I don't think our brains are built for that. I don't think society is built for that.

OK folks, I'm ripping a (brand new) Blu-Ray which skips a bit in my standalone player. MakeMKV errors out each time I try. The factory put a visible scratch in it, and it looks like it's deeper than the surface layer.

I have tried:

  • buffing with a microfiber cloth
  • buffing with toothpaste
  • ripping it on a slower Blu-Ray drive

Nothing seems to help. Short of acquiring other sources for this media, is there a trick you've tried to get troublesome Blu-Ray discs ripped?
