Half a million people went to see yesterday's stage of the Tour de France, in person.
It's amazing to me how popular cycling is in Europe.

@TheJen@beige.party a friend who may see this is driving cross country with a car filled with roasted hatch chili right now because it's only $1/pound if you buy 50 pounds or more

@renardboy@mastodon.social when they say "the economy is good" they mean their economy, the billionaires, and when they say "freedom of speech" they mean their speech. None of that applies to anyone who actually has a job.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social somehow my life has been arranged such that I've seen far more glowing brassiers than glowing braziers. I even own one.

@MissConstrue@mefi.social They issued special (legal) coins, there was a steam engine all gussied up for the occasion that crossed the US, there was no partisan demagoguery... We had a bicentennial license plate in our state.

@renardboy @MLE_online Watterson never scrimped in the detail of his machinery, but he was particularly good at bicycles.

I want to hear the New York Philharmonica. Can you imagine 150 of them being played by experts?

@WizardOfDocs@wandering.shop @NanoRaptor@bitbang.social the overarching theme of the Murderbot scifi series isn't precisely this but it's pretty closely related.

@cmccullough@polymaths.social I've used online tutors and language apps. If you really stick to a language app it can help but it's not a good way. Tutors are great because they listen and respond intelligently but $$$.

@0h00000000@ioc.exchange I've really appreciated how easy standard hot glue is to stick bodge wires on. You don't even need a hot glue gun. Clip a snippet off a hot glue stick, put it on the wire, touch it with the soldering iron, then once on each side so it flows out onto the pcb, and it's solid. It's also very easy to remove (fully) if need be, with a hard pull.

I'm printing it out and sticking up a copy in my office.

@KentNavalesi@mstdn.social nonzero chance he's sick and if you live in the western us nonzero chance he has bubonic plague or a hantavirus. I'd put out water for him and stay away and make sure no pets get near it if possible.

@reiayanami@aus.social we have someone killed locally by elk somewhat frequently, and it's almost always because they walk right up and take a flash picture and scare the hell out of the elk.

@brianb if this is a basically cheap bike, it will either have a bsa 68 or 73mm wide bottom bracket (you can tell by measuring the width on the frame) or it will have an Ashtabula bb, which has pressed in shells. Most likely bsa 68. You also need the spindle length, end to end, in mm. Often stamped on the spindle, like 68-124.
If you can find an intact bearing ball to measure, you can repack with just them, use grease, skip the retainer ring, add 2 extra balls, available online.
