THE Lemmy community for visual arts. Paintings, sculptures, photography, architecture are all welcome amongst others. Rules: 1. Follow instance rules. 2. When possible, mention artist and title. 3. AI posts must be tagged as such. 4. Original works are absolutely welcome. Oc tag would be appreciated. 5. Conversations about the arts are just as welcome. 6. Posts must be fine arts and not furry drawings and fan art.

First #gardening post of the season.

Some seedlings are coming along, others not. Obviously I didn't trust some of the tomato seeds.

What was to be our Fall kale survived under a collapsed tunnel and 7 inches of snow to become our Spring kale.

For #TombTuesday, the Ursulakapelle in Michaelskirche, Munich, resting place of several purported pieces of saints. Closeup of the bone of St. Constantia(?) in the central display case. If saints or medieval history are your thing, consider taking my course, "Relics in Antiquity & the Middle Ages," July 23-August 27, where we talk about the origins of relic veneration and the powers they were believed to possess. I found this chipmunk sitting still but breathing and he only walks sluggishly when I approach him. Seems to be breathing hard

What can I do to help the little guy?

@kimlockhartga @ZenHeathen @courtcan Gen Z really has no concept of anything that happened before they were born. I think the bar for "highbrow" has been lowered so much in our media that referencing things like Pearl Harbor is considered alienating and elitist. It used to be that a lot of this stuff could be picked up passively. Watch Looney Tunes and at some point Bugs Bunny would dress up as Lincoln and mention that Washington was the first president.

Aversion to learning new things, resentment at the suggestion that they should learn new things . . . maybe some genuine confusion as to why anyone wouldn't just go along with the herd . . . @alter_kaker @nholzschuch I don't think one can learn to structure thoughts and arguments without having some product in mind. US college instructors did start prioritizing conversational modes about 15 years ago when students' writing abilities started precipitously declining. In general I don't think that approach has produced better thinkers.
