"Protecting women" always eventually leads to keeping women out of public life.

Why Canada Needs an Anti-Siphoning List to Protect Access to Major Cultural Moments
An Anti-Siphoning List is a policy tool designed to protect public access to events of national and cultural significance.
... To ensure that important events remain available through free or widely accessible television services.

@danirabbit@mastodon.online Two classes I didn't do well in were Linguistics 101 and Intro to the Web (granted, this was circa 1996)
I like to think I lived the rest of my life in defiance (BA in Linguistics, MLIS focusing on IA for web).

@vagina_museum That it's possible (for some folks) to opt out!
I figured out skipping the birth control sugar pills in my teens, had and nursed babies in my 20s, then an IUD and have generally avoided having to deal with them most of my life.
Not an option for everyone, but I'm shocked so many people put up with the pain and mess.

Everyone is so willing to spend billions on policing anyone below them in the conservative moral hierarchy when it's proven to be less expensive and more effective to just give access to needed resources (whether it's school lunches or international development funds).
It's almost as if they think it's the entire point of existing.

@timbray I'm not insinuating some negativity is not warranted. Please smackdown fascists as needed.

@nele1999 @vagina_museum I know it's not an option for everyone! YMMV but I still think that there should be more awareness that it is possible for at least some of us.
For me, periods were always heavy, irregular, and very painful. I also had a reaction to medication when I was a young teen that had me bleeding for almost 3 months non stop. So the side effects are totally worth it in my case.
I don't think it's a critique to share your personal experience.

@3TomatoesShort@disabled.social @vagina_museum@masto.ai I nursed both kids to around 2 years old and I don't think I got more than a few periods. Lucked out there.

@kauer@aus.social @BestPreston@aus.social it's only used on women because we're supposed to be complacent. You don't refer to equals as being difficult, only those you see as tools and/or property.
I would love to repeat this on Tumblr and Xitter.

@the5thColumnist good question!
I think if your intention is for the recipient to feel better, it can be taken as positive.
And, yes, this is a deeply flawed conversation started pretending to be a survey!

@RoyBrander one of the few things that sends me back to Facebook is the library's post their schedules of events there. That would be a great one to get off commercial social media
