@briankrebs@infosec.exchange A normal company would sack a CEO who consistently fails to deliver on their timeframe. They would also seriously question a CEO who loses money in a growing market. Global demand for EVs has gone through the roof and yet Tesla lost money.

@zackwhittaker@mastodon.social @lorenzofb@infosec.exchange There models to hold companies criminaly liable in other jurisdictions. Under the Australian, which has its flaws, companies can be criminally prosecuted for many offences. My understanding is subsequent to a conviction directors can be held personally liable, unless the responsibility can be pinned elsewhere. One key element is the law needs to be technology neutral. However, I doubt the corporate protection policies of the US would make this difficult. But then the US Supreme Court did rule companies are people in regards to political donations.

Roads soak up the heat and make great places on a cold sunny day. But a 1 tonne elephant seal is a bit of a traffic hazard

@ChrisMayLA6 In Australia there's clear evidence that on average for-profit childcare centres provide lower quality, less safe services. A simple explanation is th e profit margin is achieved through reducing staff costs. Methods include paying minimum rates and gaming staffing regulations. https://www.sydney.edu.au/news-opinion/news/2025/03/19/what-is-going-wrong-with-childcare-in-australia.html

@ChrisMayLA6 I also like the ability to edit. And like you, I generally find the environment to be civil. However, I think we aren't from a demographic that is a common target of trolling etc, so not a good judge of how civil the environment actually is.

@AkaSci@fosstodon.org The sweeping statement "the the conditions that justifiedthe law no longer exist" reads as a political/policy statement which is the jurisdiction of Congress and not a legal test. Or maybe the US Supreme Court thinks it is a lawmaking body rather than a court of law.

@ChrisMayLA6@mastodon.me.uk Yep, there's too much reliance on US products and services. Diversity of supply improves competition and resilience. In the banking sector, the US supplies nearly all of the card solutions, plus many of the interchange services. In the international sector Swift (US owned) dominates, China is developing an alternative. I think Europe should step up to the plate to develop global alternatives to Swift and Mastercard and Visa

@QasimRashid@mastodon.social I wonder how many voters who supported right wing parties in part due to fears of "cancel culture" are noticing that its the right wing parties are cancelling their critics. Its time people on the centre and the left point out who is doing the cancelling and censoring their critics.

@aral Well, extrapolating from an Israeli Minister's comments last year, its a war crime if an Israeli hospital is hit (that's what he said), not if a Lebanese, Gazan or Iranian hospital is hit.

@ChrisMayLA6 I definitely don't trust businesses that have as a foundation large scale IP theft. Firstly, why should I reward vendor who isn't rewarding their suppliers. Secondly, what else are they hiding, or should they be trusted on any claim they make.

Yep, the AI grifters want free access to the work of many of the poorest, on average those working in the arts are very poorly paid, but the richest don't want to pay them.

@ChrisMayLA6@zirk.us One Australian state used to have a very good prisoner release program. It covered a range of services including housing and support to get a job. It reduced parol offences, reoffending etc, and saved the government money. Despite this it was canned.
