He told us that when he was wearing a necktie, he was acting as mayor and should be addressed as such, but when he wasn’t wearing it, he was the history professor and should be addressed more simply. Great guy, super personable.

I'm getting married next week and I wanted French translations of the various wedding speeches for the members of my family less comfortable with spoken English. I could have done it, but then I would have spoiled the speeches for myself. So I hired a translation service to do it. So far, I'm not impressed, they translated the notes I left them as is, disregarding the actual content of those notes. Maybe I wasn't clear enough, is there a standard way of giving notes to translators?

So much of the value of these companies is untethered from what they actually provide as goods or services that their public communication reads as absolutely vacuous when taken at face value.

@reflex@retrogaming.social @incompitence@mindly.social Thank you for the earnest response, this gave me the chance to look deeper into Carter's term and it indeed didn't have as many military engagements as pretty much all the other presidential terms. I had grown to view the US military as a state within a state, operating largely independently and on a much longer time scale than American presidential terms. Maybe presidents do have an influence, although I'm not confortable pointing at Obama specifically. I believe he was a quite precarious political position as a Black man in the US, which may have adversely impacted his margin of maneuver (hence the expansion of executive power to somewhat remediate that). I also was aware about the other points you mentioned but I have trouble associating them with the Obamas probably because they never made it a focus of their public interventions.

@jerry@infosec.exchange I'm not surprised, machine learning is really good when the search space is large (all the possible interactions with the Mastodon software), but the expected outcome is small and easy to measure (unexpected privilege escalation). This doesn't tell anything about Claude or any other LLM, this fuzzing is really expensive and currently only affordable because it is subsidized by investor's money (including a portion of everyone's government-backed retirement fund in the US).

Besides, medical uses of optical recognition systems are questionable too, as my fiancée’s imaging tech had to use capitals in their report to infirm the computer-generated report, I assume because people (just like you) have been badgering them about false positives.
