If your flier tells me to wear a color, but not a mask, not only am I not attending, I'm not sharing your flier.
That is putting performative solidarity above material solidarity and we don't have time for that
Any of our #Seattle friends have an extra couch or some temp housing resources for a black trans woman? She is currently in the city, and only planning to be there for as long as it takes her to get her passport and book her ticket to Spain. Please DM!

If you're #solarpunk do you:
-know who Tortuguita is?
-mask indoors?
-directly support Palestinians?
I will mute anyone who comments with bad faith or irrelevant info.

@Hex it always blows me away when folks have this take because misogyny and even some forms of racism predate capitalism. How do they square that?
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange @amici@fribygda.no did you misunderstand the thesis of my essay? Solarpunk wants to be a movement but it isn't. I don't think it should try, but it already has been. I explain why it isn't a movement by holding it to the standards of a movement, because I believe it to be potentially harmful if taken seriously as a political movement.

@A_Mimi@kolektiva.social @oldladyplays@wargamers.social I always feel the need to point out that this poem was written by a Nazi for other Nazis. In jail!
Replying to
@benedikt_lauenburg @Hex the tactics of noise and confusion that fascists use do employ each new atrocity as the distraction from the last, but the rhetoric I see hex rubbing against is when "it's a distraction" is used to deprioritize one atrocity in favor of another.
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange I did hear a lot of talk about Black Panther and how actual African felt about it, yes.

@tamarasellman@social.seattle.wa.us @alxd@writing.exchange righteous heroism is fuelled by rage that stems from love. Also, heroism is a dangerous concept itself.

@billiglarper@rollenspiel.social You're agreeing with me here. If you see solarpunk as just a genre, we have nothing to debate.
Replying to
@clockwooork@sociale.network both of those observations are true. Rage, like hope, is actively being used against us. To survive, the solarpunk scene is going to need space for rage, or else they will be weak to the pitfalls of bypassing/misdirecting said rage. Just like hope.
Replying to
@NatureMC@mastodon.online I personally found the answers to my rage in Black American literature, and Indigenous theories. Any set of communities that has persevered in the face of genocide knows rage intimately.
Replying to
@amici@fribygda.no @alxd@writing.exchange that's cool and I agree with you but I listed two concrete examples of solarpunk praxis, and my extensive time inside solarpunk space means I have read all the breathless think pieces, some of which I linked, that describe solarpunk as "more than just a genre".
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange you just marginalized rage in your own statement. do you not see a place for rage in solarpunk? Is rage only unstable and destructive in your mind?
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange i want no hand in labelling what is happening. Finding static quantification, crystalizing movements by naming them, that ain't my game anymore. You go on ahead making new words for stuff that already exists.

@prokyonid@mastodon.sdf.org @eniko@mastodon.gamedev.place @foone@digipres.club the first time I bounced off of mastodon, I didn't even make it onto any one instance to catch a vibe, I just saw this list of servers with no clue which were open, and how many I had to be in to get "the experience". The multiplicity is what boggles people, in my experience trying to entice my normal friends into the network.

@Hex like if ur gonna have problems with Money, because you trace a direct semantic line from money to the subjugation of certain classes of people to create overabundance of wealth through the acumulauon of debt, then please be anti-money, I'm listening David Graeber.
But are they anti-money? the communists who usually take this stance?

@alxd@writing.exchange @v_d_richards@literatur.social @benrob0329@dice.camp yeah, I heard of the anthology, I was there on Tumblr when it was all getting invented. It's a speculative literary and art movement fabricated as a response to cyberpunk. I was just answering the rhetorical question, because I've participated in and observed solarpunk culture this entire time, with growing dismay and awareness of the movement's weak links. It began as a fictional genre first, a real politik second, so it's very weak to appropriation.
Replying to
@NatureMC@mastodon.online may we all one day live the gen x dream of never needing a label or brand again.
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange
Okay, and WHO HOLDS THAT FIRST RESPONDER?
You want to see resilience that comes from rage metabolized, and I am TELLING YOU there is nothing in your scene to help people metabolize that rage and truly come out the other end. I know because even rooted cultures struggle with this type of resiliency. Who is there for that responder's nervous system after the disaster? Who has the tools to hold space for that rage???
Replying to
@billiglarper@rollenspiel.social afrofuturism does not claim to be either punk or a political movement, so no to that one. It knows it's a speculative genre and it's going great.
But yes, since I used anarchism and punk both as movements to compare solarpunk to, those two movements hold up to my very, and I stress, very, shallow critique.
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange I regret continuing this thread, but your statement here made my brain itch. What do you mean when you say:
"not every region of the world has indigenous cultures that offer their own land stewardship and visions of social justice."
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange oh africafuturism yes! (Autocorrect got you upthread)
Yes, what I'm trying to reach for here is your polish "africafuturism", and what you are saying is you're having to simply make your own "afrofuturism". Is that what you're getting at?

@alxd@writing.exchange it took me awhile to get back to this point because I wanted to do some reading. I want to validate how hard of a problem you, and a lot of Europeans, face. Your land was the first assimilated, and colonized over and over (especially yours). Decolonizing and reindigenizing Europe will be the historic feat of our species. So I want to ask in all earnestness: have you asked the people who have lived in your mountains for six centuries? Have you looked outside your nation's borders?
Replying to
@amici@fribygda.no @alxd@writing.exchange idk what is going on here but you have so thoroughly misunderstood what I am trying to convey, that I am no longer continuing this conversation.

@OohOkayKay@beige.party this may be a big number year, but there are some years foundseed doesn't spend more than maybe $50 in a whole year, but then there was the year some beds got established and $800 went down that year. @amici@fribygda.no @alxd@writing.exchange I made a list of things aolarpunks love to claim that are direct products of the mainstream, what other examples do you need?
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange My second question then stands, why exactly does the language and knowledge need to come from your exact region? Why not look to the Inuit or Ainu or a little further south to the Kurds? There is a lot of resistance to colonialism, everywhere.
Casting aside "sustainability" do you have an equivalent term for "relationality" or "interrelational"?
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange I addressed the "lack of language" statement in the essay. It is not a lack of language we suffer from, it is platforms not giving space or weight to indigenous frameworks that already talk about everything solarpunk cares about. What is wrong with the language already available?
Replying to
@alxd@writing.exchange the blind reactionary rage that throws molotovs is easy to control you're right.
Which is why I am trying to speak for the rage if the earth, the volcanic rage that will consume you if you don't make space forbit in your movements. Honing rage is useful and necessary, but what I see most is bypassing rage in favor of more "useful" feelings.
Replying to
@billiglarper@rollenspiel.social in my essay, I described solarpunk (genre) as beautiful and necessary. At the end of my essay, I described how solarpunk serves the purpose of enteyism into greater leftist theories. So, you don't know it, but you are agreeing with me.

- Why do we want journalists and folks who don't observe this basic etiquette here? I also love that OP has two walkbacks about this thread already.
