@eestileib @artemis I'd argue that the will to do Imperial Adventure abroad was snuffed out for a generation by the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Even another 9/11 might not work. So when you combine the fact that it's another pointless war in the Middle East with the fact that Trump wants you think about anything other than Jeffrey Epstein it's no surprise no one's buying this

This will mean strategic disinvestments in rural areas, relocation assistance from rural to urban, prosecution of religious conservative organizations by changing the law to remove any religious protections they had, and heavy punitive taxes on corporations on the rich. Our focus should be on and acting as much disempowerment on conservatives as possible and the only caution we should exercise isn't sharing that people who are not conservative are not adversely affected more than necessary.

@artemis the global shift to solar power and EVs is a done deal now. Southeast Asia can't get gas now, they'll switch and never switch back, since not only is green tech just better but once you pay for it there's no ongoing cost until replacement decades later

People it's grown on about how EV's just won't work because blah blah blah but in Australia they're buying them sight unseen from dealerships because there really is no fuel to buy for the gasoline cars. We've been in a period of low gas prices up until now so there wasn't Financial pressure to change, now there's intense pressure from not only high prices but shortages in some countries

@unlambda @artemis @dalias solar panel deployment has already been going crazy, EVs are basically a solved technology more or less, and places like Thailand in the Philippines cannot buy their way out of shortages at these prices and availabilities. Not only that but once the decision to invest is made that's all the money they'll have to spend for a long time, they're going to be bought in and paying only interest on any loans they took out. The places that run out of oil products and are forced to do rationing will rapidly adopt electrification first

We're watching it in real time and people have only been running out of fuel for a few weeks now. Once it sets in this is going to be months long or more, people will start thinking about their energy investment decisions
