Just got followed by a fake-hot-girl spam account.
So I guess #Mastodon has arrived.

@Gargron@mastodon.social PLEASE make any t-shirt 100% cotton! Polycotton is awful in hot humid weather.

Maybe mentally we can read it like this when we see it:

@cR0w@infosec.exchange Being the “tesla of something” can have many connotations. I’m familiar with both Ubiquiti and Tesla, and don’t know what you mean.

@brianvastag cars use most of their power “pushing air and heating brakes.”
Unless they have regenerative brakes.

@Broadfork Excited for their future growth to see how my “1500 year old cave beans” do. Wild looking beans that are mottled purple and white.

@clive@saturation.social Where are the options for
•Begrudging
•As a last resort
•Resentfully
?
Every single install of it I’ve ever done has been a huge PITA to get going.

@RonjaBiernat putting it behind a cart requiring an email address is at best a little acquisitive and and worse down right sus.
Why not make the PDFs downloadable directly?

@cR0w@infosec.exchange Maybe now explain to moderately capable novices why they might want to use this?
From what I can tell, this is maybe a secure and crowdsourced alternative to top-down domain resolution. Do I have that right?

@wanwizard I never use those terms. That was someone replying to me or replying to one of my replies so maybe focus on them?

@imanijoy I doubt I will be able to attend. But as someone I think you would think is the demographic you’re looking for, I’ll say that it would be huge for mastodon/lemmy/pixelfed to be packaged up to be easily added to softacious. Or in some similar way, made easy to spin up a server when you don’t have route access from your web host provider. Right now the technical barrier to spinning up your own personal server is way too high. For any of the AP platforms.

@cR0w@infosec.exchange My question is why would a home user want to run this? Never heard of Yggdrasil networking before btw.

@503bartley@pdx.social an entirely unhelpful response that provides no information to a novice user. At first glance, zorin looks great to me. Why should I not use it? Especially when my entire use case is for it to serve homebridge and Jellyfin.

@wanwizard The reply that recommends Fedora mentioned high levels of configuration and upkeep. I’m not a Linux fiend, ready to spend hours tweaking drivers.
The extent of first time configuration I want to do is specifying an admin user and setting up my wifi password. And frankly that level of configuration should be DEFAULT for any distribution that is ever mentioned with the words “user friendly” associated with them. (Not saying Fedora is that. Explaining my expectations.)

@wanwizard I’m going off what the original reply said about Fedora *while recommending it.* I recognize what I call “Linux Blindness” where advocates of 1 or another distro fail to recall the steep learning curve involved, and various gotchas in ANY distro if you’re doing anything even slightly odd. Like mounting drives or using Jellyfin.
I have NO understanding of Fedora’s complexity, but based on having used more than one Linux distro over the years, I’m CERTAIN there is some.

@wanwizard And to give you some gauge of my knowledge, I just KINDA know what Gnome is and have certainly never considered not using a default desktop GUI. No idea what XFCE is (mentioned by the guy recommending #voidlinux).
I’ve been a Mac guy since 1984 and really just expect things to work. So every Linux is painful for me, but I have needs only it will meet.
