@MichaelTBacon@social.coop @emilymbender@dair-community.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run Emily banged on the door with her fist. No answer. This was an emergency, she kicked in the door. "Elias?" No answer. The room was quiet except for the eerie crackle of radio static. Then she saw it. The Elias Thorne Light House Keeper™ AI robot lunged at her. It had sense her rowing in and had been lying in wait the whole time. It pinned her to the ground, it's curly metal shavings beard rough against her face.

@MichaelTBacon@social.coop @emilymbender@dair-community.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run She desperately reached out to grasp something, anything to fend off her attacker. She found something, a book. It wasn't particularly heavy. It's only real weight was the weight of it's words. She drew her arm in a whacked the robot as hard as she could, many times over. She lost count of how many times she hit that thing. When it was all over she pushed the revolting metal abomination off her and struggled to her feet.

Prof. Emily M. Bender stood with one hand on the mast, looking out towards the lighthouse with a steely face, "No, we have to go back for Elias Throne, the lighthouse keeper!". "But the orphans!", exclaimed David. "You take them back to shore, I'll get Elias Thorne", reasoned Emily.

@MichaelTBacon@social.coop @emilymbender@dair-community.social @davidgerard@circumstances.run David and Emily grunted as they heaved and hoed as they lowered the wooden lifeboat down into the icey water. It would be hard work, but they both knew Emily could do it. "See you on the other side, captain", Emily stepped onto the lifeboat. Despite the chilly wind and driving rain, Emily was sweating as she stepped onto land. The little island was just big enough to hold the lighthouse, a rock and a bench out of the water.

I don't spout hateful things, I dont do anything illegal, but I want to be able to walk away at any time if I screw up and get cancelled or something. The other benefit is that if the definition of terrorist behaviour is redefined to include, "Vague satire about eating the rich", then I don't want it to be linked back to me.

@jensorensen@mastodon.social I'm very pessimistic about plastic recycling, a given city can typically only recycle one or two of the plastic types on a good day, I assume most cities are burying or shipping most plastic away. My personal outlook is, "Sort the plastic so that all the plastic can be buried together, then in 50 years time there is a chance that it can be dug up and properly recycled when it is worth it". Worst case we have regular landfill and a slightly more expensive to create plastic landfill.

I paraphrased all this, but you get the idea. And fossil fuel mining isn't exactly going great either, fracking pollutes local water, oil spills kill penguins.

When the car dies we can recycle some of the metal and the catalytic converter." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KtQ9nt2ZeGM

@mdm@mcnamarii.town @wdormann@infosec.exchange Yes. That will reduce the blood loss. You still have to train it, but you can train it once for all users, you can even distribute the training for the next model among your users too. The problem is efficiency, cloud providers *could* get efficiency through scale, use renewable energy, reuse cooling water. They typically dont, they do whatever is cheapest which is usually to freeload on the local town's resources.

How much functionality are they going to change anyway? They probably aren't going to keep improving anything important over a decade, unless they can charge me for it like drift mode or something.

What OTA updates is a modern car going to send me in the next 14 years that I am missing out on by not having a connect car? Anything critical to how the car functions that it didn't do off the production line? I doubt it. The only updates you really need are for recalls for safety or security, and manufacturers should be doing those in person for free. Or allow me to update it via USB drive.
