@doctormo@floss.social totally understandable, if unfortunate. can y'all use that position to be vocal about how much their new policy sucks, tho? seems like Inkscape has the potential to be a very loud voice about that! 💜
Replying to
@julie@merida.hair hmmmmmm gonna pass this along to my parents and see if they join. might not be the best medium for them but maybe they'll find something that works

@quinn@social.circl.lu we go to the cute classic lil theater in town once a month for trivia... does that count?
we've seen a couple movies there, but they basically only do the family ones. they used to show older classics but that's stopped alas.

@lake ugh yes do not repackage messages of dissent for the rich art world!
I grew up adjacent to the formal gallery world, since my parents do art jewelry. now I see a strong undercurrent of aspiration towards that world from my mom, as a marker of having "made it." but I'm so much more interested in the art that happens in other spaces, art for the people by the people.
don't feel like I do enough of my own art to have an idea about how I reconcile the two, but it's def fertile ground! 💜
@sunguramy@flipping.rocks they're so good! I miss every little corner store having a slow cooker full of 'em and a slotted spoon to fish them out!
happy to share my recipe if you'd like - it's not the same but it's pretty close
Replying to
@cassolotl@eldritch.cafe but also, that seems to have come full circle in my thinking and brought me around to your point that the "AI art isn't real" argument is fundamentally a) harming artists, b) propaganda, c) fascist, and d) the wrong argument to be making
but also, I disagree with using the "boil the oceans" tool to make art. so leaning on that side of the argument is gonna be my go-to even more than it already was.
thank you for occupying my brainmeats on this drizzly, dreich day :blobcatEvening:
Replying to
@cassolotl@eldritch.cafe this has been rattling around in my head since I saw it this morning over breakfast...
I was def in the "AI 'art' isn't art" camp but now having read this I'm wondering if that is an extension of the arguments about "art vs craft"
which are also fundamentally probably fascist because it's about what a creative work can do for you
it's also *definitely* connected to "which type of art has value" which is *definitely* a fascist argument
and that's about as far as I've articulated

@enriquericos hmmm I am worried about "one app that does everything" because it makes for a very complex piece of software... but this looks very cool and I'm also gonna try it out!
gonna play with it to see if I should recommend it in place of Affinity since they got bought by Canva and moved to subscription
curious about "no AI" jives with "procedural art" tho
Replying to
@enriquericos oh fair enough - I remember some games with "procedurally generated worlds" but hadn't seen it in art
I'm still working my way through Steam updates to install. figured I could boost their numbers on a larger platform ^_^
Replying to
@sunguramy@flipping.rocks yeeeeee I'm so excited you got to experience it in person!! someday I wanna go to a launch :blobcataww: :moomin_sparkles: :_stars:
