Reminder to myself to move off Google and towards self-hosted/EU hosted alternatives. It's actually quite crazy how they do it: they combine the "storage" with photos/documents, so if your photo/document storage is full, Google blocks all emails unless you pay for their subscription!

@matty@blahaj.zone @alice@lgbtqia.space here is my problem with the "it's posted public so it's for everyone to do whatever they wanna do with it" argument: there is something like an unwritten social etiquette in the fediverse based on mutual respect and especially on decency. Automating this all away for the sake of algorithms and reach is effectively throwing all that into the bin, removing the human factor from the loop. That's not why I joined the Fediverse...

Started a new #pixelart collection with amazing pixel artists. It is still work in progress and more talented artists will be added in future.

@matty@blahaj.zone @alice@lgbtqia.space also Mastodon often gets a lot of bad rep for having "low reach"
I think that's its strength, not a weakness.

The problem is that with this entire debate, people seem to focus on the wrong thing. It is irrelevant if AI is useful or not. Asbestos was considered useful too once. Usefulness is not the only metric to consider. Linus seems to ignore that.

In other words: if I run a script on my machine to hack some platform I will get in trouble but when an LLM calls a tool to do so it is nobodys fault apparently.

I miss the playfulness of old forums: earning points as you post and having different ranks based on points.

@_elena@mastodon.social @EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu it is baffling to me that they are not using Mastodon (EU instance) as their primary communication tool.
I hear the argument a lot that Mastodon is lacking reach but the instance could literally treated like a government website where the "reach" argument wouldn't count anyways.

I kinda wanna do a Youtube video on VRAM optimisation: we start with a hyper unoptimised Godot scene that eats like 16GB of VRAM and without sacrificing visual fidely and best practices we bring it down to like 1GB

On top of that, OpenAI ran the harness without any monitoring in place, causing it to run over the weekend undetected. We should investigate if this was even maliciously done so to have the PR outcome. It either was lack of skill or malicious.

@VeroniqueB99@mastodon.social an excel sheet where a dollar amount goes up will abstract away any nuance, any sense for human values, any ethics. There, it is just a number in a cell and the numbers always win in this game.
The only way to change it is by impacting the numbers (through laws and punishments on violation)

@darkuncle@infosec.exchange there is also a transformative element to it. After several years of creative process, another artifact of it is the knowledge and newly gained perspective by the artist. Someone, who uses genAI to do the same in 10 minutes has gained nothing of the sort.

@no_brainer@sueden.social @alice@lgbtqia.space @evan@cosocial.ca yeah agree. robots.txt basically works like this: "hey bots please do not index this website, thanks" and if anyone ignores that they can be called out publicly/blocked etc. but not having any mechanism like this whatsoever to begin with seems odd and is a missing part here. Enforcement would work through social pressure (like robots.txt)

Is there a source attestation protocol already? In an era of misinformation this could be extremely handy.

@NanoRaptor@bitbang.social it's kinda crazy how bad the hallucination rate is of LLMs. You actually can get extremely close to 100% reliability but it requires some arcane trial and error of guessing the exact sequence of system prompt tokens but hold on you just included this specific word that for whatever reason completely breaks the attention mechanism and now the output is all wrong and never mind 🥲

@dansup@mastodon.social I guess instances need to adopt strict manual approvals for signups. Before even a join request is in, Mastodon should offer verification tools (e.g. domain verification like it works now) and then based on domains/verification quality an assessment can be made. Ironically, to automate this, an LLM could be utilised.

@no_brainer@sueden.social @alice@lgbtqia.space @evan@cosocial.ca would some sort of "robots.txt" mechanism help here where accounts can signal if they consent to certain aspects and ethical instances respect those controls and any not ethical instance that rejects those controls could e.g be auto blocked by default by ones own instance for example.
