@delta@chaos.social When I suggest messaging platforms to others, I think of a few basic requirements related to privacy, and the thing is, I can hardly think of anything besides Delta Chat that even comes close. Almost everything requires you to have a phone number or create a login ID at least. Delta Chat works well on mobile on both Android and iOS. Like, I suppose SimpleX is in the running, but I prefer Delta Chat, personally. Delta Chat's use of IMAP and SMTP and all the server choice is pretty cool in terms of being censorship-resistant.

@delta @utopiarte @hypolite Delta Chat can do things that people may not necessarily need or want, but just because it can do them doesn't mean it must do them. Don't want relays? Don't add them. Don't want to use this or that server? Don't. The original functionality didn't go anywhere. 🤔

@stefano Maybe there's also such a thing as instance-wide blocking of remote accounts, come to think of it, but you might want to just get rid of those users on your own server that subscribe to such things, as the others mentioned.

@alex @delta if I'm not mistaken, Delta Chat already works this way. What you are suggesting is what happens when you add a "classic" address to Delta Chat and then add and message people on chatmail servers. Alternatively, you can find or launch a chatmail server that isn't blocked by your provider.

@hypolite That's understandable. The only workaround I can suggest, because I've used this setup before years ago, is to use a specific client like Thunderbird with a custom filter that moves chat messages out of the inbox rather than have Delta Chat do it. Of course, Delta Chat would still need to be checking that folder even if it doesn't move to it...
