My theory on why there is so much mansplanation here is that there aren't people you can safely explain to. If you're an explainer on mastodon, your options are eight phds and six authors; if you explain, it's inevitably a mansplanation. Elsewhere, there are normies so you can vent your explanation energy to without mansplaining. Here, even on topics I do know about, if I try to contribute to a relevant discussion, I embarrass myself because everyone here is the smartest person I've encountered.
@APBBlue@thepit.social and the dunking concerns are basically entirely ameliorated with a "detach toot" button -- when I was still on Bluesky, anytime I saw someone dunking, there was no way to get to the original skeet because the original author had detached it from the quote, and the pile-on was happening only on the quoters timeline, without reference to the original posting. But it's not really a behavior I'm really seen on masto (with the caveat that my experience is by no means universal)
