Hey #mastodon
what is the best alternative to #microsoft sharepoint? I am currently a #windows user but Im working on switching to #linuxmint
Ive seen a lot of discourse around #nextcloud vs #opencloud but i have heard that they arent well optimized and have some security issues, so im open to suggestions from tech savvy people
Because it apparently needs to be said, i am looking for #NoAi slop

#linux #opensource #tech #technology
please #boost for reach!

2026 Horror Movies thread 1/?
#horrormovies #horror #obsession #Backrooms #youtube

I want to talk about what a year its been so far for the horror genre

I was planning on doing a piece breaking down Iron Lung and how it will impact the future of horror, but I can't talk about youtuber's impact on the genre now without bringing up Obsession and Backrooms.

I want to start with Iron Lung as I feel there are a lot of aspects that set it apart from Obsession and Backrooms:

@clarissawam@mefi.social @lisarue@mastodon.geekery.org I dont think its particularly an American attidute, given I'm not an American. It is part of a larger problem that's more prevalent in America and Canada as opposed to Western European countries. A majority of wages dont meet living costs, which contributes to financial anxiety. The unfortunate reality is that working long hours (which often isn't negotiable) has impacts on health and relationships. It's not an ego thing or wanting a pat on the back per se.

@clarissawam@mefi.social @lisarue@mastodon.geekery.org not everyone has the luxury of working salary, getting PTO, etc. i work a full time job, hourly wages 5$ above minimum where I am and i would not be able to afford all of my expenses without help from family. I have support systems but not everyone does. Many people are not privileged enough to be in a position where they can prioritise living a healthy life over expenses.

@LeoBistmans @johnhenrythe3rd @chu theres plenty of archive sites that you can read nearly any book on, if you know where to look. plus (at least where I have lived) it is often cheaper to buy a book from a local bookstore rather than Amazon or equivalent. Check your local library as well if it is accessible!

Obesity Incidence in U.S Children and Young Adults: A Pooled Analysis

Obesity prevalence among children and adolescents has risen sharply, yet there is a limited understanding of the age-specific dynamics of obesity as there is no single nationally representative cohort following children into young adulthood. ...

@YKantRachelRead @Strandjunker I was unaware of the preferred terminology, apologies and thank you for educating me! At the same time, Ob*seity is, at the time being, still the accepted medical terminology. Many people are also consistently taught that the word "fat" is not the word they should be using, that it is rude. Again, I do not think that OP was saying that "fat people are failed thin people" by any stretch and they explicitly reference one of the reasons for unhealthy weight gain.
