Time for a new #introduction

Been offline for some time now but getting tired of Instagram again so here we are.

Wanting to post on #privacy, #coding, #selfhosting. Lobbying for open software and real social networks with organisations, unions, councils etc.

Some politics may slip in here or there, wanted to do two different accounts but don't have the time to maintain one.

Happy to meet you all!

The Q3 2026 issue of the FreeBSD Journal is now available. This edition explores Production Deployments, with articles covering home lab consolidation, cloud operations using FreeBSD Compute, USB in user space, auditable credential-exposure checks, and more. Inside, you'll also find the Foundation Letter, a EuroBSDCon trip report, and the latest 2026 events calendar. 🔗 Read it here: https://freebsdfoundation.org/our-work/journal/browser-based-edition/production-deployments/ #FreeBSD #FreeBSDJournal #OpenSource #SysAdmin

Here is how I wasted the last 30 minutes with #mozilla #thunderbird Suddenly, the "add attachment" dialogue window stopped appearing. I could not attach memes to my emails anymore. I messed a bit around, unsuccessfully. Nothing appears anywhere in logs. I also checked #bugzilla , but that bug tracker is a huge mess and I can't wrap my head around it. Defeated, I tried #ai , which, I have to admit, helped. But not immediately. It went carefully through discarding possible culprits one by one, starting from the most common issues, until it found the cause. The culprit, in my case, is a ridiculous #bug (anyone feel free to report it, I won't touch Bugzilla with a stick) I deleted the last directory which I had last used to attach a file from. This path remains stored as default "last used" directory. Thunderbird did not find the directory anymore and decided to FREAK OUT SILENTLY instead of doing something sensible, like defaulting to my home, or at least alerting me that the directory could not be found. I want my 30 minutes back :( #rant #linux #opensource #foss #floss

#CachyOS #Linux #OpenSource #neuhier

I submitted a Pull Request to update MacPorts' OpenSSH to 10.6p1 here: https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/35346 GitHub Continuous Integration checks passed OK. It's up to someone else with commit access to merge it. (I am less certain what to do about the sandboxing support removal mentioned by @brynet@bsd.network believe it or not, I kinda despise Apple and macOS; yet I figure down streaming things for others since I am doing it myself is hopefully beneficial? If I am going to have to get more into the internals of a proprietary for-profit OS from a company that has trillions [plural] in its market cap? I kinda feel as if they may actually be able to afford to employ folks to do this stuff and I am less certain I want to be among them? Particularly given that supposedly in recent years, Apple has become subsumed to some degree by Unit 8200 [e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vc-iH5GEPJ8&t=480s] like the politics and optics of all that are, awful [Unit 8200 are Israeli spies, essentially]; and probably also a big part of why the new Apple Watch is Big Brother "always listening" as just one example of how the company professing to be privacy focused, in practice: is more like 1984's double-speak in 2026. If you can, I would sincerely encourage you to use OpenSSH on OpenBSD!) #OpenSSH #MacPorts #SecureShell #macOS #Encryption #OpenSource

🌩️ Dutch tax office ditches Microsoft 365 cloud for on-premises alternative 「 The Netherlands Tax and Customs Administration has abandoned its planned Microsoft 365 cloud migration in favor of services hosted on infrastructure it controls, alongside European open source alternatives. Email and calendars will move on-premises in 2027, followed by storage and collaboration services later that year and in 2028 」 https://www.theregister.com/on-prem/2026/10/07/dutch-tax-office-ditches-microsoft-365-cloud-for-on-premises-alternative/5301603 #netherlands #opensource #microsoft365

Hello. This is the account for Mise, a privacy focused browser I have been building, mostly for my own daily use. It has workspace isolation, a built in ad blocker, tab hibernation, split view, a PDF reader, dark mode, and a userscript engine among other things. Close to a 1.0 release now. Happy to answer questions, and always interested in which sites trip the fingerprint protections if anyone runs into that. https://rakosn1cek.github.io/Mise-browser/ #Introduction #FOSS #OpenSource #Privacy #Electron #Linux

@_elena@mastodon.social @oscl@mastodon.opencloud.lu @paolo@mastodon.opencloud.lu we have lots of cool talks at our track, but I'm also really excited to for our "Institutions on the Fediverse" panel. This panel brings together experts who have brought prestigious cultural and public institutions on the Fediverse. 👏 We have the National Gallery of Denmark (SMK), the French Ministry of Culture, and @manfredzielinski@mastodon.nl is going to talk about social.overheid.nl, the Dutch gov Mastodon instance. :mastodon:#oscl #oscl26 #opensource #digitalsovereignty

Pixelfed is choosing its mission over a quick payday. Despite receiving major offers, the project is staying focused on building a social platform designed to last — one that can grow to 100M+ users while creating a sustainable model for creators and admins. In a social media world driven by profit, choosing independence is a powerful statement. Maybe the future of social media can be built differently. #Pixelfed #Fediverse #SocialMedia #Creators #OpenSource

Hi Fediverse! 👋 I'm Patrick, enterprise architect & security specialist at C-smart, an intercommunal organisation serving Flemish municipalities. I run our Innovation Lab, where we test EU OS/Linux workplaces, open source security and AI tools for local government. Here to share lab results and connect with others working on digital sovereignty in the public sector. #introduction #DigitalSovereignty #EUOS #OpenSource #InfoSec #GovTech
