Just finished reading this fever dream of a fairy tale. 100% recommend. Beautifully plotted and lushly & lyrically written, although some elements aren't entirely modern in sensibility ( witches = evil, magicians = good, and the story needed a Hero to resolve it). Main character was believable in spite of being a unicorn. Loved it. PS Any idea how I get it back to its library in Kinshasa? #bookstodon #books #amreading #fantasy #library

People literally used to bury cars to get rid of them when they no longer worked. I remember discussing this with a chap from a local village and he seemed to know quite a few spots where cars had been buried.
This though, is both spectacular and disturbing.

@hongminhee Very much agree. I live in rural Scotland where transport links are less than patchy, and having a car is a necessity. Our car is electric, thankfully, but but we have to have it or I can't get to and from work. There isn't a public transport alternative that gets me there on time!

Atlee and his government rebuilt the UK after the social destruction wrought by not one but two world wars. Atlee and members of his government were also instrumental in the domestic policies that kept the UK running during the blitz.
But Churchill gets all the praise, and Thatcher, who began dismantling Atlee's work, is more revered.
Does that not tell you who owns our politics?

Chatting via messenger is a pretty easy set up for my less tech inclined family. Why do they deserve less privacy for needing to use Facebook?

@rpm@social.lol @index I'll be honest, I think advertising is just a huge tax avoidance scheme. So little is known to be effective, so much is spent trying to improve it's small amount of efficacy, it seems like it costs a lot for miniscule return. But you don't pay taxes on that money, and perhaps even to your shareholders you look like you are doing something with that money.
