#canicule #climat #climatechange #politics #france

Western Europe has experienced its hottest June on record. A rapid attribution study concluded that comparable temperatures would have been virtually impossible in the climate of fifty years ago. The scientific foundations of human-caused warming are firmly established; the more difficult argument now concerns money, timing, responsibility & the management of risk https://cfi.co/sustainability/2026/10/the-summer-the-debate-shifted-heat-money-and-the-cost-of-waiting/ #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateInstability #MassAtrocity #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

As resistance to emissions mitigation intensifies and climate damages become harder to ignore, political attention is increasingly turning towards adaptation, long the parent pauvre of climate action. Unlike mitigation, adaptation can be presented as protection rather than transformation, without directly challenging fossil-fuel-dependent systems and livelihoods https://www.ipe.com/comment/adaptation-business-as-usual-and-business-unusual/10138621.article #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateInstability #MassAtrocity #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

The Greenland Ice Sheet: 20% of the entire dataset abrupt thaw of permafrost in boreal forests just below the Arctic: 0.7%. The North Atlantic subpolar gyre: 3.1% which potentially consequential climate risks remain difficult to assess because comparatively little scientific attention has reached them? Finding those gaps before the climate system tests them for us would be a useful place to start https://theconversation.com/some-climate-tipping-points-are-being-studied-far-more-than-others-new-research-293614 #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

Although the social and environmental costs of renewable energy technologies are often gestured at parenthetically in left discourse about climate action, they are rarely given serious and sustained attention. It is generally assumed that because a rapid transition to renewables is necessary to avoid full-on climate disaster, we will simply have to accept these costs without too much critical scrutiny https://www.counterpunch.org/2026/10/09/why-capitalism-wont-save-the-climate/ #ClimateChange #pollution #ecology #environment #climate

Meanwhile, IMF-backed austerity and fossil-fuel policies in countries including Ecuador and Pakistan are limiting investment in climate adaptation and, in some cases, undermining the shift to renewable energy. With climate-vulnerable countries facing mounting damage, the authors argue that institutions must expand grant-based finance and debt relief, and ensure climate risks are built into lending decisions and economic programmes https://greencentralbanking.com/2026/10/09/world-bank-and-imfs-lack-of-climate-action-could-make-countries-bystanders-in-their-own-destruction/ #ClimateChange #pollution #ecology

First, engaging critically with the social injustices that climate agendas might create and perpetuate can help tackle climate change in a way that is conducive to a fair and just transition The coalitions emerging between social and environmentally oriented parties to present a stronger front against right-wing parties engage with backlash that is more ideological https://www.resilience.org/stories/2026-10-09/urban-greenlash-why-is-climate-action-facing-opposition-across-cities/ #ClimateChange #UpheavalClimate #ClimateReversal #MassAtrocity #pollution #ecology #environment #climate
