@luna@fedi.mldchan.dev @stag@mk.absturztau.be honestly, I think the best approach is just...have people build ffing fences/walls could even offer to like /fill borders of large claims with mud brick walls or somthing makes it way easier to actually see "you're not supposed to be here", and if people try to intentionally like build a tower to jump over, that would kinda fall under harrasment, as there was a very clear boundary set you had to very intentionally try to violate (also prevents moving mobs in/out too) and you can always open your gates if you temporarily want to let people in, also ofc people can just also say "please go away", but I find it quite annoying to have an open field you're not allowed to walk in, in some places IRL it's also required to actually have like a fenced off perimeter for it to be illegal to be in the area (as long as you go away when ordered to, but just wandering onto a plot of land itself is allowed) idk, sorry for blabbering

@anthropy@mastodon.derg.nz @star@fed.amazonawaws.com I may just be a masochist, idk why I like shell scripts, like really, idk why, they're objectively bad for most things lol trying to do things in posix (not bash) shell scripts that have no business being in shell scripts like a scrolling menu list widget (bc not bash, it has to use dd to read input one byte at a time ​:amiya_sob:​) or ~30% of a crude dns client (it has to do decimal for math, octal for output, and handle binary for input ​:woozy_baa:​ it can only send a request and parse the header structure... shell scripts are the WORST language for it, I haven't touched t in a while lmao) I should probably migrate to doing my cursed lua + shell script hybrid thing actually which is surprisingly less cursed than I thought it'd be, either side can call functions from the other side, it's neat! this would let lua (an actual scripting language) do logic, and the shell be the glue to the outside world (it basically re-executes itself for every intra-script function call, lol, not actually efficient at all)

@susankayequinn@wandering.shop problem is that it takes effort and time and luck and at a certain point it becomes too much to individually handle every personal connection, but that might still not be the point where you feel content and actually finding spaces that are nice and fitting, is extra hard, though it gets to meet a lot more people with a lot less effort per person and how much is enough effort per person, is also pure guesswork and... ehhhhhh I do like the point, but GETTING there is hard...most people are willing to chat, but most people also forget you quite easily, few would remember you without specifically being reminded of, or seeing you, and even fewer would dare to specifically bother you about anything, even if it's specifically about something you're very interested in...

@mhoye@cosocial.ca @Npars01@mstdn.social unsure about the dye, but pretty sure we DO know how to make basically roman concrete (it's not that hard) but it's just you cannot do an EXACT replica bc...they used local materials and we don't have the exact same materials...e.g. the specific kind of volcanic ash, iirc similar w many paints and stuff, you can't say "use egg" bc "chicken egg 500 years ago" was a very different thing from one made now, and good luck also getting it to have the same sort of diet too it's not so much that we don't know how, it's that we don't know the exact ratios AND don't have the same materials just one of those would be workable, if you know the exact ratio you can try to dial in substitute material, and vice versa but if you know 95% but have 5 variables left which don't have discrete steps and affect each other...

@passocacornio@tech.lgbt @faithisleaping@anarres.family I think it boils down to: money lets people do selfish things sometimes it might be justifiable (e.g. work a while to save up enough you can reserve an entire cinema showing for yourself) but a lot of time, those selfish things are disproportionately bad it's really hard to imagine human civilization working without something that functions similarly to money, tbh it's possible, but hard without capitalism? sure but without any money at all? very hard it would definitely impact global and international trade and tourism and stuff and remove a lot of conveniences we take as granted, just because they require exploitation to be made
