Not quite sure how to hashtag this...
I have a reference in a book to "the Devon vine pattern" - judging by context, a carved design. Naturally my online searches are full of Spoonflower pages and interiors.
Can any historians of art and design in the UK help?

I have had my first review on Amazon!!
(Yes, I know, Amazon, but it's only the second review I've seen of my book anywhere!)

I think this is something that the Fedi can get behind : petition for a British Repair Bonus, providing a discount on repairs to clothing to make maintenance more affordable.
If you are are a British resident, please consider signing this petition.
And, to everyone, please consider boosting for reach.

@david_bardos Gosh! See, this is why I like asking on the Fedi - you get bonus nuggets of information!
I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Le Guin, but I should probably get around to reading that book anyway!

@Alice@beige.party I wore glitter to a party once in the eighties and a week later one of my friends said she and her boyfriend were both still finding glitter. I had given them each a hug. Once - after a night dancing!

@Martin_Whitworth@mathstodon.xyz You are not the first to be confused. It's why I go by "Rachel Mary Wright" in textiles these days!
I don't think she's on Fedi.. She's on IG as "Rachel Setford". Her website is here:

@dandrumheller I find myself really hoping it stands up to rereading, if we do track it down!

Further details, from my mother who also read the book at the time:
"I remember he was alone as he approached those enormous highly carved gates. The carvings told the story of the city or the land.
The soldiers of the winning side were, of course, well disciplined, physically and mentally. In a sequel, some of the soldiers of the losing side sought to emulate these behaviours and would defer to victors, not through fear but through admiration and respect. There was some magic in the books as well."
Does that help anyone?

@dougmerritt I don't remember a Norse flavour, but I'll ask Mam. Two memories are better than one!

@docdieterlen There's a painting called "The little Speedwell's darling blue", showing a curly-headed little girl, sister of the boy who was the model for "Bubbles"....

@Martin_Whitworth@mathstodon.xyz I haven't a clue - it's the other Rachel Wright who's a textile artist!
I think what she does is fabulous, and I could no more do it than fly...

@benchessell It's pre-GRRM, I think. I've not knowingly read GRRM - warned off by the blood and gore! - but I've been told he writes like a poet. The book I'm looking for was competently written, but it was the story, not the language, that attracted.
