@FreeBSDFoundation@mastodon.social I wrote something. Consider #FreeBSD for your next big project in the cloud. https://freebsdfoundation.org/our-work/journal/browser-based-edition/production-deployments/cloud-operations-using-freebsd-compute/

The Q3 2026 issue of the FreeBSD Journal is now available.
This edition explores Production Deployments, with articles covering home lab consolidation, cloud operations using FreeBSD Compute, USB in user space, auditable credential-exposure checks, and more.
Inside, you'll also find the Foundation Letter, a EuroBSDCon trip report, and the latest 2026 events calendar.

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au It literally took a 4 hour workshop with @stucchimax@social.secret-wg.org for me to understand #IPv6 in depth so WTF is it taking so long for full-time Network Operators that are 'certed' to the eyeballs to understand v6???

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au Yeah, the older tunnels are just not where they need to be for #IPv6, they were invented before ratification. Like the address space, some technology we need to move on from, to a) reduce tech debt, b) use modern, flexible technology designed for the address space to solve the problems.
But you already knew that :-)

@oxy@social.bsdlab.au MTU will adjust typically on the fly and only become an issue with extremely big links (but those are running jumbo and are carefully managed). Good thing is, just use it, you don't need to micro manage it like vintage IP.
Cool things like QnQ/VXLAN work perfectly fine. GRE, not so sure it has the scope to be more modern (VXLAN is typically used now).

@stufromoz@aus.social I take 10 minutes out of my airport time to help the confused oldies. Service has really dropped, especially on the national carrier. Airports are such a shitty place these days unless you are elite lounge member status. Last trip reminded me why I just drive.

FWIW, Xenocara is working fine under OpenBSD.

Anyway, OpenSSL was a shitshow. OpenBSD saw that after heartbleed and created LibreSSL and yanked out all the shit that shouldn't be used in the modern day as well as fix the poor design choices. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnBbhXBDmwU . Still waiting on the GNU camp to fork OpenSSH (which they easily can because of the permissive license, but they wont).

@daedalus@eigenmagic.net Even with 1 VDEV, often scrubbing will start to trigger issues. I run a USB enclosure with 2 disks (granted on FreeBSD) as one of my backup targets without issue. I do use parkverbot though to keep the drives from spinning down, this is the real killer of external USB storage.
