mastodon 4.8.0-alpha.3+glitch.anarres.familyI make, procrastination permitting. Hang out otherwise.
(she/her 🏳️⚧️)
Mostly post and boost tech stuff and trans stuff, with a sprinkling of art and photography here and there.
Avatar/banner drawn by me, the former is a snap from a storyboard of the character i ended up being, the later is something random i drew in a depressed mood and kinda liked.
Also know as Lona Lit.

@BryanGreyson@social.tchncs.de Hm, that sounds like someone fixed the buttons and just slapped in whichever one they found in the box without realizing the dots meant something.
I would try to report that as an improper maintenance/repair.

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt Hm, is that new tho? The first time i heard about ADHD, in the early 00s, was in the context of it being a hoax.

Brand new sentence i came across today: "adversarial hallucination squatting".
Which is exactly what it sounds like - grabbing the domain names, github repos, and such that are commonly hallucinated by LLM tools, and filling them with malware.

Wayland.
xdg_toplevel.configure can return zeroes. Which means it's your job to define the window size. As it is clearly written in the protocol xml. Which i totally read, instead of figuring this out by trial and error for an hour. Totally.

@JoscelynTransient@chaosfem.tw Hm, i haven't watched broadcast tv in decades, so the last time i've seen any sitcoms was back then. I did see some, but none of the big names or ones i can remember enough to google up.

@sophia81@icosahedron.website AFAIK i had to actually set up a PTY via /dev/ptmx and everything to get proper output in my terminal emulator.
And how it's done is different on every effing platform / os.

Two months left until the anniversary of my Canadian work permit application...
Wonder if i should apply for a tourist visa, just for the lols.
Best case scenario, it might kick something loose in their bureaucracy.
And if for some reason they do grant it, at least i'll be able to go visit Canada and meet some friends next year.

@transcendentempress@eldritch.cafe Well, it developed that this is misinformation.
The GBA BIOS i acquired two decades ago is actually the prototype BIOS, which actually sounds different.
And it's the one i've been using ever since, blissfully unaware of it's existence and occasionally wondering why haven't any emulator ever fixed the sound thing.
Once you get a release BIOS, the emulators do sound almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
Sorry, and thank you for prompting me to finally look into it.

@transcendentempress@eldritch.cafe Hm, it does sound off a bit in a way i struggle to describe.
Like the speaker/amp on the real thing adds some distortion to the ideal waveform the emulators are making.

@iamada@tech.lgbt Hm, wasn't there literally research that showed that this was an illusion?
Then again, depends on your definition of ">", i guess.

If only it was possible to show off software.

@ria@tech.lgbt Ow. That's not fun. 🫂
But yeah, in my experience it's about 50/50 if they would care or not, but so far every time they did it was relatively straightforward taking-a-look-and-waving-me-through kind of a thing.

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt Could be the other way too. The rise of AI art have all but killed my ability to gather any motivation to practice.
If you are good at it, you might look at the robot with boredom or contempt.
If you are shit at it, however, looking at the robot is just depressing.
Still no temptation, tho.
