It's a concept in art studies and is almost exclusively used for artists who are dead and no longer harming people with their beliefs and money. JK Rowling has been international news for years now for the harm she's doing to both trans people and women worldwide. If you're not aware of it, you're not paying attention, and at some point that's your own fault. I will gladly educate people on it as these conversations occur. But trans people are fucking exhausted. And your comment is just making excuses for that.

@Catriona@tech.lgbt Destroying feminism in this way is a big part of the right wing plans to grow their power. They know feminism directly challenges everything they are. It's why feminism has become so muddied, even in queer spaces. People no longer know what the "male gaze" is, or why sexualized TV content can be inappropriate or offensive. They don't understand why it's wrong to sexualize every woman who walks into their view. And if you call people on it, they get defensive. We need to rebuild feminism and grow it again. But it's difficult when the word itself has been successfully given such a bad connotation by the bigots who want to destroy it.

@alice@lgbtqia.space Honestly, I know people hate hearing this, but I think having to add "not all men" (and the backlash that comes with it) is a direct attack on women and feminism. It should be obvious that "not all men" are a problem when these topics come up. But so many men ARE problems, that these become constant conversations we have to have. So when someone doesn't say "not all men," if the response is to attack the woman (or NB, or whoever) that made the statement, you're inherently devaluing the conversation and brushing off the actual problem being discussed. Ultimately, the insistence on always adding "not all men" and/or having to defend men in the comments constantly is just a reinforcement of the patriarchy.

People were kinda following those of their own gender into one side or the other. When you got inside, it was actually just one giant bathroom. And everyone looked so confused except my wife and I, who just didn't care. It's such a non-issue in practice, but people act so weird about it bc they can't imagine people just...being viewed and treated equally.

Go tell others what JK Rowling is doing and why it's bad to engage with her work. Show that you actually care. Then we don't have to keep going down this rabbit hole. @RickiTarr@beige.party I'm struggling super hard to be proud of this country. The supreme Court all-but said that people like me aren't protected by the constitution 2 days ago. So what is there for me to celebrate? I have to cross my fingers I don't get into any legal issues or get assaulted on the street, or worse. Because the law doesn't protect me. And a scotus justice spewed straight-up hate speech about people like me after the rulings. Because that's the country we live in now. I'm not free. I'm a slave to a job I don't like, and I have no safe way to find another because AI has ruined the job application process, not to mention the workforce itself. The gestapo is showing up at people's doors in my city and telling them to stop posting about them, with threat of punishment. So free speech is just toilet paper now. Like what are we actually celebrating? White supremacy? Nazis? Fascism? Authoritarianism? I'm so tired. And yet I still have to go to work every day and pretend to be ok. And I'm just not.

We spend a LOT of time discussing it within our circles and doing what we can to fight it. We KNOW that lots of people are unaware of what's happening. The issue with this thread is that you felt the need to come in and tell us why it's happening, and that wasn't necessary. So it comes across as starting a fight and downplaying the issue. So just don't do that. Tell us what you're doing to fight the ignorance. Not why the ignorance is occurring.

@RickiTarr@beige.party and what's worse is, I hear people constantly say "but the midterms!" And like, the midterms what? They stop the bleeding *a little*? They're not gonna reverse the court cases. They're not gonna replace the judges. They're not gonna shore up the red states that queer people are fleeing from. They're not gonna reduce the violence or the rhetoric. They won't remove the president. All the midterms do is make sure the laws don't get worse and take us a step forward for the next election, and the next, and the next. This doesn't go away in 6 months, or 2 years. The damage in this country will take *decades* to fix. And this isn't me being a doomer. That's probably optimistic, honestly. I may never actually see trans people treated as equals again *in my lifetime.* Especially with the silence I'm seeing/hearing from liberals right now. I should hear screaming. But I could hear a pin drop instead.

And between those two problems, it's probably *most* men when someone says "men." So again, not all men, but still men.

The forced integration of AI into our lives is a massive knowledge transfer away from the "lower" classes. The right wing has spent 30+ years railing against our modern education system. The US South has been a testing ground for this, as they've moved more toward religious beliefs and away from modern education. Now we see AI companies buying and burning books, destroying search engines, forcing their way into our education systems while other core courses are cut, offering easy replacements for anything we want to create. And people are getting dumber and less capable of doing these things. So what happens when the AI companies raise their prices, or pull information away entirely? Who will know how to do those things anymore? How will we access that information if we can't afford it? This has happened in the past, but on much slower timelines. This is an escalation by the upper class. And it's going to be an uphill battle from here.

"Hey, copilot. I haven't read the novel for tonight's book club. Please summarize it." Fuck. You. I'm actually in a book club. I read the book each month. And if I don't read it? I don't go. Reading the book is *the point.* If you show up and start spouting the opinions of AI slop, I'm going to be pissed. Why are you even here? You didn't read the book! You know nothing about it! And no, that LLM summary doesn't solve that! The nuances matter! (Yes, this is frustration from a commercial I just saw.)

We've all seen the way men gloss over when we try to explain our struggles to them. They won't listen to us. They might not listen to other men either. But they definitely won't listen to us. And in a room of decision makers, the men in the room are almost always more heard than the women in that room.

And yet most brands don't do 10.5, do make 11, and don't go any higher. So all these women are stuck buying men's shoes. And that's honestly not fair. Or we have the super fun option of buying from crossdresser/drag stores, which just feels icky.

@faithisleaping@anarres.family This is absolutely true. I don't write code but I'm a product manager in software dev. My backlog only ever grows. It's currently 40 items. Tomorrow it'll probably be 41. Next week it might be 39. But the week after? It'll be 42. It doesn't matter what I do. It doesn't matter how many work items I release. There will be more. And I'm at the top of my pay bracket so I'm not gonna make more money. There's no openings for promotions, so that's not happening. So what reason do I have to pump out more work? I get the priority stuff done. I keep my backlog organized, so when someone asks about it I can say "yep, here's the info." And I pump out 5-10 work items per quarter. That's what I offer and it works. I see others running around like chickens with their heads cut off and that just can't be me.

There's a girl I'm acquainted with through online spaces. She's very nice. She's also trans and on the clocky end of the spectrum. From a distance, you'd probably not notice she's trans. But if you're closer to her, you almost definitely would. She also has a very deep voice. She's often surprised that she gets clocked. And she says she "doesn't know why it happens." And I'm not gonna be the one to tell her that she is, in fact, clocky. That's a mean thing to do. But, she also insists on dressing emo/goth and she's in her 30's. And she wears very robust lipsticks every day. Metallic blue, matte black, etc. And she's very bad at applying them. It's uneven and tends to either go outside her lips or not fill them out entirely, if not both. This adds to why she gets clocked, for sure. She posts photos regularly. And unless she asks for feedback, I don't believe I have a way to let her know, correct? Does anyone feel differently? You wouldn't want someone to tell you about your lipstick/makeup, correct?

But I've definitely heard both speak poorly of IPL's, epilators, and waxing. They all destroy the follicles in different ways that make more permanent removal more difficult. Laser is actually pretty effective at permanent removal tho. So I'd think it'd make good sense to do laser first and then electro, like I did. Then you can at least thin out the area first.

Someone who has 1t or 850b or whatever on paper still has more money than someone who has 1m on paper. It's an absurd amount of money that no individual human is "worth." We've assigned arbitrary value to people and turned life into a game of gambling. And whoever takes the riskiest gambles either gets paid out or thrown in prison. And you cross your fingers for the former. And the rest of us? We minimize the gambles so we don't have to worry about prison.

And how we're ready for forming intimate connections with friends and mostly unconcerned with being judged by others? And our ability to talk about our bodies, our ailments, our struggles, and our lives? Have you tried talking with cishet people about this stuff lately? How many of them genuinely seem to gloss over or struggle in this situations? And have you noticed how cishet people talk about their partners? Or have you seen their dating profiles? I mean, I could just rant all day (night) long. But like...share your "are the straights ok" story below, except we're doing specifically cishets.
