@hambier I've been using this feature for almost two decades now, and my muscle memory is accustomed to this to the point that I require a dedicated physical mouse button, and I will refuse to buy a laptop that lacks a dedicated physical middle mouse button. And yes, I've used this for pasting even on my old Thinkpad X31 where holding the middle button while using the trackpoint was used for scrolling due to the X31 having no touchpad at all.

@petsoi @the_grue Over the last few years, I've spent an increasing amount of time and effort on yak-shaving vanilla GNOME into a desktop environment that I could consider reasonably usable according to my own standards. But I guess this has been the final one of a seemingly endless litany of ill-advised hot takes on UI by the GNOME project, and I've finally started migrating to the COSMIC desktop environment. There's still a few minor details missing, but I'm quite happy with it overall. 🥰

@hambier With the fixed Touchpad, the T440p became a really great device. One of the last Thinkpads where the CPU was socketed and could actually be replaced and even upgraded without soldering.

@hambier In 2014, I bought a Thinkpad T440p, one of the first Thinkpads where Lenovo's internal QA processes had broken down to the point of allowing some misguided person(s) to "replace" the physical mouse buttons with a multitouch trackpad. The result was an unbearable abomination, and thankfully not only the physical buttons returned with the T450, but the T450's trackpad assembly *with* those physical buttons is even compatible with the T440p, so I fixed my device with a T450 trackpad.

@tessarakt That's when you press the middle mouse button and hold it pressed while moving the mouse, to scroll into the direction into which you've moved the mouse. This is essentially how scrolling using a track point (a.k.a. "pointing stick") on Thinkpads works.
