New piece of Sci-fi artwork for May! The wedding has now happened (couldn't have asked for a better day), and so suddenly I had a bit of free time. Tried some slightly different post-work ideas on this set of mandelbulb3d renders and I didn't quite get everything right so it isn't my best work.. happy enough though and have a piece done in May. So still on (an average of) 1 piece every month of 2026! #MastoArt #SciFiArt #ArtByAlastairTemple #fractals

@petrikas@mastodon.art it is so depressing. It's like they have looked at the US Tech industry, with all its failures and abuses of power and thought "Ooo I want that here, but local". Rather than "how do we make a better local industry".
@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social it's strange seeing CEOs complaining about this behaviour when it's actually a good thing.

@tante @Fragarach the saving grace is most of the dedicated "AI" and "agentic" features are going to be Snaps which basically everyone else ignores. So fingers crossed it will be fairly Ubuntu contained.
Failed at month 3 of my "let's make at least one art piece a month" aim I set myself for this year... that said I am more aiming at regular creation than anything else and I have managed to get 95% of the way there on a piece over the long weekend so I will count that as my piece for March and try to get another done this month. Preview (cropped) of said piece attached. #MastoArt #SciFiArt

@mttaggart E.g. a) I think it is generally bad for their health (smoking literally, AI in terms of cognitive skills) in the long term, although some will get away with it. b) lots of people using them will be collectively bad for society as these costs compound. c) an individual using it doesn't make them a bad person (although I would encourage them not to). d) pushing (be that tobacco or AI) it on the other hand does demonstrate some sort of moral failing. 2/2

@mttaggart no not that (that was surprising and sad), I mean are we really surprised lots of people have conviently managed to forget about it when they launch a new product? I am disappointed in people (and still very disappointed in Framework for just ignoring the whole thing and mumbling about a big tent), but not that surprised that loads of people seem to have suffered from very specific amnesia.
The sooner Blair vanishes into the sea the better for everyone. The media really should treat him as the corrupt blowhard irrelevance he actually is rather than breathtakingly reporting his every utterance.

@jon@gruene.social urgh she is such prime example of the reason the world is like it is just now.
When I am back from travels I will try to add some Swedish ones (if someone doesn't beat me to it in the meantime).
Can't imagine this going wrong for anyone ever.

@ben@werd.social the shells and supporting infrastructure will remain, but the computation equipment inside it (primarily GPUs) has a much much shorter lifespan than the telecoms infrastructure of the dot com bubble (particularly cabling). That might mean that a load of the datacenters do turn into empty husks when the bubble bursts.

@mttaggart I totally agree (I don't actually own one as I haven't needed a new laptop, but was incredibly excited by them and was always recommending them to others before). That said are we surprised? Tim Cook funding Trump's inauguration and whatever that prize for him got a massive collective shrug because M series chips go brrr and Apple make pretty products. People are probably thinking at least Framework are at pushing the hardware in a good direction (which imo makes it all the sadder).

@iamgerardthomas@mastodon.social @ewen@social.ewenbell.com me too. I have so rarely put together anything physical, but it would be really cool to. I keep getting half way through projects, life getting in the way but then never getting round to restarting it when I have time again.
@harriorrihar@mas.to I struggle to think of anything about it that is punk.
A full day of train travel. Malmö to Sundsvall, honeymoon time :)

@mttaggart its not perfect (analogies never are), but it's the easiest way of giving a concise explanation of my feelings I can think of.

@dereisenhofer@metalhead.club yeah no problem, only thing I would ask is that you add a link back to my website (www.alastairtemple.co.uk) alongside it.
Also send me a link when you are done and I will also share it :)

@mttaggart yeah that is probably fair on the Fedi part. If anywhere was to remember things like this you would expect it to be here.
