@mntmn@mastodon.social George Lucas too... these men find more value in presenting that they are ahead of the pack, than any value system or sparing a single post-colonial thought.

@switchingsoftware@fedifreu.de won't list software which can be self hosted and is open source, if it doesn't have good enough privacy tech. This should probably be clearer/labelled on the can.

The maintainers' preference is software with that specific dimension of privacy, so it ends up being a pretty specific list; not so much focused on being a dictionary of OSS alternatives.

@LovesTha@floss.social re: your bio indicating wanting to move away from NixOS

FYI
@ermo@fosstodon.org of @AerynOS@hachyderm.io
``sudo moss sync -u``
> You sync to "something". Either the latest repo state + your implicit system-model, or an explict system-model file (which contains repo state declarations).

It isn't trying to be like NixOS and it's alpha, but it may be suitable. I use Lix on my servers where I need the whole IaC, AerynOS on my desktop where i don't want to reinvent everything painstakingly. For me it works well this way.

@fifonetworks@infosec.exchange ya, I've always preferred going for SMBs. Some though have leadership that tries to cosplay as Elon Musk and co. and that can put a damper on things sometimes--like a lack of communication/transparency with the team, weird performance metrics, etc (but it's far better than the real thing).

is a lot like we chose to deal with the costs of systemic cruelty over the (in my opinion, ever-diminishing) costs of systemic generosity. What's ur take? :3

@scottjenson@social.coop i watched it ^_^ it was very cool. I liked the mario example to explain how getting as much dimension as possible out of one button. Also the clashing of devs and designers brought some clarity to the matter, i've never boiled it down to it's components like that :amariokartprincess: i do think a recall sorta api is a privacy nighmare even if the processing is local-first (wooo ink+switch) though thats probably expected xD (crucially though on the meta level of: even if we do it in open source anyway, we give the window to FANG to do it; and in the current consumer landscape that only adds to the data farming nightmare we are in). Also i did wonder: people rejected iPhones to start with.. but also we kinda still do; we generally see smartphones as a bigger issue than a benefit—it seems it only gets seen as something to continue (or to look back fondly on) because on the flipside it extracts from and so effectively keeps consumers on it (despite the almost universally unhealthy relationship).

@troed@swecyb.com It's still not gonna really justify vibe coding. The mod it produces isn't going to be as you dream it to be if it's just coming from weighted statistical likelihood. It'll also be far harder for you to maintain since you didn't learn anything, which means the only option to take it beyond its first version is just LLM guesswork iteration or suffering through it. Maybe it sounds good to get something out quickly? but there's just more at play in practical contexts. It's literally only useful for a mod if you're tryna one and done and/or sell it to some unsuspecting schmuck 😬 (which would be lame)

@troed@swecyb.com for someone doing a no-seriously you aren't really asking anything serious, far aside from being additive in any sense. Idk what you actually want me to answer. I also don't know how you think you've managed to ascertain so much about me and what i know from a reply which was largely anecdotal... 🤔

@thunfisch@chaos.social ya! i do use GitLab features. I dont have the capacity to maintain a self hosted forge like Forgejo at worky :( Projects are split between GitLab and BitBucket.. BitBucket hasn't been very impressive on the basics, there's just an unnecessary amount of friction on the small things there i.e. their UI. I'm certainly not an Atlassianer cuz that whole thing is creepy :blobcatsweats: I just do practices that are good and suitable. I'd love to use Codeberg instead, and support a better org, but it would probably be self sabotage for the moment 🫠

@cathywilcox@theblower.au I almost feel like i'm being swindled. But maybe we just have no compass of what better policy is, so have to rely on "it doesnt matter as long as we are all telling the truth and following through" which is insane. he made a lame promise and then broke it. If there was ever a promise to break, it'd be a lame one; one people don't want you to keep... especially if you are representing said people... But even on a relatable level... If i promised to empty someones bank account and then didn't do it, would they really be peeved because i didn't keep the promise? lol. It makes me less likeable id think, but thats because i was so unrealiable as to have said it to begin with, not because i didnt do the unlikeable thing gahhhhhhh. So ask why they said it at all! 🫠🫠🫠 / Ask why i even said id empty someones bank account 😭 Is this just a passive voice (or silly 'objectivist'/'realist') thing? 🤧

@iFixit@mastodon.social im gonna get as much life as i can trying to maintain what ive got before considering these. But, if i fail in that these will likely be good! ..unless they dont do their upgrades to it backwards compatible, if thats the case then the obsolesence thing is still there and i probably wouldnt bother -- i already generally manage to keep things over 10 years when upgrades can be reasonably considered (except stupid smartphones 👹👹👹) something like these, if they provide decent upgraded parts in 10 years from release that could easily mean for me a 20 year product 🙌 i dont have confidence in Fairphone to deliver that though yet 🫠

@lyokanthrope@blahaj.zone @lina@vt.social ah i see, well that's good, it must be quite new i was snooping and they already have "fluxer premium", i mean i know they don't have like a marketing dept. and are looking for a way to fund it, but the "premium" and "pro" thing and attaching some of the arbitrary limits that discord nitro had is a lil concerning. Ultimately though, I do think even if it has a Nitro-like issue, it'll still cook Discord as a solution if the dev follows through
