< your essay is good but you obviously used an LLM to write it – look at all those em dashes!
a: it was published in 2015. Here's the discussion on Hacker News to prove I didn't backdate it
b: those are en-dashes, not em-dashes. You imbecile. You absolute tool.

a year or two ago we were "incurious"
now we're "fearmongering"
so it's working, keep it up
too big to fork is the software equivalent of too big to fail
I'm seeing some people I used to trust on LinkedIn start to realize the whole LLM coding thing ain't working out like they thought it would. Not many, but it's a start
It is so, so tempting to post receipts of their all-in posts, calling the rest of us “incurious" over the realizations they are now coming to, with a demand for a retrospective "how are you ensuring you won't fall for this type of bullshit again?”
The bridges are already gone, they burned those unintentionally, and I'm not sure they realize that, yet
hey, if you make software with a user interface that displays text, I need you to do something:
make your base font-size user-configurable
*you* might be able to read six-point type, but “just lower your screen resolution HUR DURRR" is not the appropriate answer to "how do I make the text in your app bigger?”
I’ve forced myself to learn to cook over the past few years, something of a challenge for people with #adhd because, well, cooking requires really good time management. I’ve been getting better
Tonight I tackled my first pie, and from scratch; my kid of course wanted the one with a meringue topping (a S’mores pie recipe from America’s Test Kitchen), and it turned out well

I don’t always read Mike Montiero’s weekly newsletter, but when I do, I’m glad I did, thanks to gems like this

the "well, my people aren't who I thought they were" continues outside of the tech sphere:
“ChatGPT would tell me if I was being a bad person”
yeah, um, that's not how it works. that's not how any of this works
a passion project of late has been a keyboard-driven GUI file manager in the vein of ranger or yazi
There are a lot of "finder, but better" apps (on macOS, at least)
a lot of norton commander clones
a lot of windows explorer clones
but nothing like this for the gui
and a lot of things I do on the computer benefit from the gui environment and OS integration
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet, it's still very much pre-alpha quality; I'm using it daily and already find it useful but I also keep hourly backups in case things go sideways
I'm doing this with Rust and egui, and it's been a fun learning process
I'm really amused at the number of voicemails I get – even from legit callers – who think they're talking to a person: Hello? Helloooo?
I get that this is because their robocaller is waiting for the thing to pickup before dispatching the call to a person, but you'd think more people would understand that voicemail is a thing
mac users:
You download a techincally-oriented GUI app with a plain text config file format (let's say KDL or such) that you're encouraged to open. You expect it to be located in...
I'd love to hear thoughts on this in the replies
