@tay @dalias @lazza @Vivaldi just no. This is a dead-end technology with no future. We have known this for over a decade. It used to be called 'expert systems' and similar. Go look up IBM Watson. And that was done by far smarter people, manually training a targeted dataset with people who were experts in the field. It is not a technology. It is a waste of resources to do a bad implementation of a chatbot from the 1970's so a bunch of sociopathic techbros can siphon money for themselves.

Where'd you go?
- Away, hopefully to an early grave

Why?
- Because I'm tired of every fucking day being a fight to achieve nothing

So you'll be back, right?
- No, and it's insulting that you act like you give a shit

Why not delete the account then?
- Impersonators. This is the only actual RootWyrm, period.

Signal's in the profile. I won't hold my breath.

Keep following me in hopes I return, stop following me and toast the good riddance, I truly don't care.
I know where I stand and I know that nobody cares if I live or die, except people who want me to die. Just don't fucking bother me with bullshit pretending you care.

@0xtero @da_667 @Viss @iagox86 @hrbrmstr it's not even that you can't teach people unwilling to learn. You cannot possibly ever educate someone who sits there and tells you the chatbot is great, who turns to if it you don't have the answer instantly or aren't available. You just cannot keep 'unteaching' them chatbot bullshit that they relearn again because they no longer retain information. It is Sisyphus, except the boulder is a giant ball of shit.

So now apparently it takes a force greater than the one that took Iwo Jima to escort a single merchant ship. Crewed by soldiers who are so terrified, they demanded helicopters and attack boats and spent thousands of rounds of ammunition firing at absolutely fucking nothing and hitting even less.

@marshray @wdormann the PoC works against the kernel and I already tweaked it as necessary for musl. What I'm seeing in musl is that it appears to be failing at step 3 with all suid binaries (I tried several,) possibly because they all set BIND_NOW, or because they don't link against the kernel.

@bagder@mastodon.social it's all marketing. And any improvements are completely moot, as the actual *costs* to find that single bug were in the tens of thousands of dollars minimum. That's the MINIMUM known cost. It would not surprise me if finding that one bug cost $75k, $100k, $200k of compute time. It's a pile of shit, hilariously inefficient slop that sometimes behaves as a fuzzer that occasionally finds a crumb.

You cannot teach someone who yeets things without even reading it forget checking if any of it works, who argues REPEATEDLY because they only believe the chatbot, and then complains that you don't know anything because CrapGPT made insane shit up and the AI is super good at computer. They just drag EVERYONE down and make you look terrible.

@AutisticInnovator this is a whole thing with every store, not just Walmart. We have a local discount chain here. Most prices are competitive or highly competitive. EXCEPT for certain SNAP/WIC items. Milk, eggs, butter, competitive. Kraft singles, 16ct, the only one you can buy WIC, $5.09. Walmart, $3.86. JIF Peanut Butter, can only buy 16oz. $3.59. Walmart, $2.98. It's not just Walmart. It's *ALL* of them. They know they have captive customers, and agencies that won't question prices.

@david_chisnall@infosec.exchange @davidgerard@circumstances.run backwards compatibility is very much a sacred cow when it comes to Windows. There are huge customers that can move the revenue needle, who still need OLE32. There are thousands of applications that are still in use that need OLE32. And they've always essentially promised that things will always be backwards compatible. If it worked on Windows 3.11, then it will basically keep working, forever. Which is no small feat to begin with.

The biggest reason I quit blogging was because from 2010 or so, every single one of my posts was within days stolen by SEO scamming operations in India, halfass copy-pasted to a dozen blogspots running ads mixed in with thousands of other often unrelated posts. When I identified and blocked them, they switched to using open proxies.

@patrick @dansinker @darkuncle yeah, no. That is not what the suburbs are known for. They are known for packing houses on top of each other to the point where you can open a window and touch your neighbor's house - literally. When the interurban was built, the population was 2500. The city has annexed virtually no land and the population is now ~18,000 with a whole 4 apartment buildings.

@db something I often point out is that people don't yearn for *or* hate Microsoft products. People use Microsoft products every day without complaint, *when they work*. What people hate is broken, unreliable things. No matter who it is. Ask anyone who's been through an Atlassian upgrade. Ask anyone who's tried Red Hat's multiple attempts at making major version upgrades possible. Ask Gitlab users who have run into bugs (which Gitlab always blames on users.)

@hrbrmstr in other words, UAE leaving has basically zero impact on structural supply at all. It simply introduces a *destabilizing* factor. And again: the markets are vibe based. So the price of oil is skyrocketing. Because they now have a wildcard and no idea what they will do. And the assumption is that UAE will maximize 'shareholder value' by getting as much as they possibly can. Which can destabilize the whole system *either* direction.

The old 16-bit stuff still works more or less perfectly with the compatibility shims. That's what NTVDM is for. It's why OTVDM is a thing and works even though it's "obsolete" technology. It's impressive and terrifying at the same time. Especially when you consider that in theory, you can in-place upgrade from Windows 3.11 all the way to 11.
