re: last boost. it's true alt text is hella useful for anyone even with perfect vision who maybe needs help getting the joke or recognizing someone in the picture.
as a geezer myself with some face recognition trouble i do appreciate a lot when people put in some names in the alt text if needed.

@culturednyc i use a Subsonic server for the collection because it handles everything by folder (it expects artist/album/track) and not the screwy metadata which i've never had time to correct. it presents a decent web interface for users, with its own player and stuff.
been using that for a decade now. on the phone i have an app that interfaces to it and can handle folder or metadata searching but i mostly just use folder mode.
subsonic is an open source thing and there are forks of it with different stuff.
i also use miniDLNA server on that thing, it also allows a folder interface for any client that can do DLNA (my playfi audio unit on the stereo)
(the server itself is Freebsd)

the only way to avoid this would have been in advance turning on a 2fa method using one of the code-generating apps (they all use the same math so you can pic an app and use it for everything). or YUBIkey nfc keys work too.
there's also 'backup codes' you can download and save in a file to make sure you're not locked out.
