I know it's a meme at this point but I love how different shutting down Linux is when compared to Windows. With Linux I hit "Shutdown" and it's immediately dead. Like no hesitation, it throws itself off the cliff.

With Windows it's a soft suggestion, like "sure, I'll think on it." then passively encourages other apps to close, which they may or may not do. "Oh well, this app didn't want to close. I give up". Then later "hi, I need another 30 minutes, I have updates". Then after it shuts down it turns itself back on. "Hi, I'm done updating!" Like bro why are you still here, I shut you down.

@peritia@alovely.space I'd recommend checking out Neovim instead, then look up "vim tutor". You can also check out: https://www.vim-hero.com/lessons/intro-to-modes

@Paul_stilgar@mastodon.social They have very good reasoning: https://grapheneos.org/faq#future-devices And they will be expanding now with their Motorola partnership. GrapheneOS isn't like Lineage, it can't be put on any phone.

@mcn@social.lol Most phones have magsafe cases you can buy for them. It doesn't solve your problem directly, but it's a workaround.

@bluegreenandfree@mastodon.energy Immich isn't E2E encrypted, but when you control your own data then that eliminates the biggest attack vectors. I use Tailscale to take my home network with me when I'm out of the house, that way I don't have to set up port forwarding or DNS records and thus exposing it to the internet. In all it was pretty easy to set up, if you're handy with a computer and can follow instructions.

@bluegreenandfree@mastodon.energy It's open source from what I understand. It's end to end encrypted, which means even if the company wanted to view your photos, they couldn't. And if you don't trust them, you can self host your own instance. Though at that point you could go with Immich.

@billy@billys.mom My PS5 gathers dust. Occasionally me or the family wants to play an exclusive and we'll turn on the PS5. Otherwise, everything is on PC. That's just my experience.

I've been interested in Framework's offerings, and have been exploring configurations. Their new announcements have made me painfully aware of their non "pro" offerings, like the non aluminum shells, or one piece keyboard and trackpad options. I've largely missed the early batches. Question for those in the know, how good are these standard parts? Are they still pretty solid or is it worth holding out for a later batch of the newer versions? #FrameworkLaptop #framework

@alex@gamerstavern.online Oh yeah, whatever happened to Judas? Looking at their dev log, their last public update was in December. Still coming along I think.

@infodon@infosec.exchange @profoundlynerdy@bitbang.social I came here to say this. With the stock Pixel experience you're kind of locked in. A possible other option is using ADB to disable AI related apps and hoping it doesn't break anything.

@greggjaskiewicz@infosec.exchange @Kosei@dmv.community I often get comments like "You're using a Pixel? I thought you ditched Google?" "I did" 🤷‍♂️

@Perrin42@mastodon.social Fair point! I forgot about that one. They're definitely playing around. Kudos though, having the freedom to do that.

@nomenloony@nomenloony.com I've been running the game on Steam Deck at a stable 30 for a year now. They released an update this week that optimizes the game to run at 60. I now see where those optimizations were inherited from. 😄
