@clarfonthey @cwebber Sounds like a description of software in general - there's only a tiny sliver of people who are positive about LLMs but don't say anything

@bsletten I had that thought last night when they were talking about how the descent path was perfectly on target. NASA have incredibly high standards and it's become unusual for an institute to keep them rather than compromise in the name of saving money

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @stripey@meow.social @DaveMWilburn@infosec.exchange @report_press@mastodon.social you'd have much better luck with a "civil political discussion" about the general age of consent if you weren't talking about it in the context of RMS defending people who are unambiguously adults engaging with people who are under 18. You must think we're stupid, trying to pretend that you're making a abstract, general point when the other side of your mouth is protesting he doesn't deserve the backlash for very specific opinions

@cy @foolishowl@social.coop @cstross@wandering.shop dictionaries are easy to define - they're lookup tables. As soon as you introduce any sense of external world, or logical coherency or internal mental state that the looked up words are checked against, you have something more sophisticated than a dictionary

@ireneista @glyph have you shared those thoughts before? I haven't really discovered any solution that doesn't become an ouroboros of complexity because the most direct route to avoid writing out boilerplate is macro systems of various kinds, which involve the complexity of algorithmic code generation

@dalias@hachyderm.io @tante@tldr.nettime.org I thought "browsers are too hard to make new from scratch" was a matter of e.g. rendering the DOM and CSS together being so complex and fiddly that it needed a large team to be achievable rather than the larger architectural choices of how that view is encapsulated

@jguillaumes@mastodont.cat @cstross@wandering.shop IIRC the Chinese Room is based on a giant lookup table, so the intelligence just moves into how you got the table. Autoregressiom would be just as valid a rule as any other if it actually had a world model

@isaackuo@spacey.space @cstross@wandering.shop I'd have taken 2 as a tautology. Consciousness in the "I think therefore I am" sense needs a self-model, which needs thoughts modelling things in general

@tante@tldr.nettime.org @bsm@swiss.social Yeah, I will never use Brave because I recall it came out during the NFT craze and IIRC promised to pay crypto as part of something. (Either normal browsing or watching ads)
