Thank goodness, I had no idea how easy it was to become a dangerous "flockhunter" who's taking down surveillance cameras in an almost impossible to systematically prosecute way. I'll be sure to never do anything he instructs us on how not to do!

Introducing the panel, Cadwalladr said: “I think this might be a Hay first, in which we have an author in a hostage situation. Blink once if you can hear us, Sarah, twice if [Mark] Zuckerberg is an asshole.” 🤣 I don't want to read about Mark's great accomplishments in lawbreaking, but can I purchase 700 copies of the book to be delivered to his doorstep?

The sheer amount of revulsion I felt for the pathetic wretch who "couldn't" delete the image they scanned of my ID card for all eternity, but agreed there was no one on Earth who was going to try and impersonate me in order to take my medical procedures for me. A completely useless record, utterly damning in the hands of someone seeking to purge the weak, and they'll dutifully preserve it for all of time, and turn you away from desperately important medicine if you refuse. Like, low level employees have some leverage against their boss since they deal with them on a regular basis. But customers got nothing. The secretary even complained about the records they kept of her without permission, when she changed hospitals! How did it come to this...

When you read Graeber's comments on slavery in Debt: the First 5000 Years it makes things a lot clearer. Someone who works for free isn't necessarily a slave. Someone who lives where they work isn't necessarily a slave. Even someone who can't change jobs isn't necessarily a slave. The only thing necessary for slavery is isolation. When you can separate someone from their family and friends, and anyone or anything who can support, defend and protect them, then you can do anything you want to that person. No amount of cruelty will have any consequences for you, as long as you can keep them powerless and alone. It's the same reason abusive boyfriends fly into a rage when their significant other has been talking with other people without them. It's all about removing you from your support network. That's the essence of individualism. It's window dressing on slavery.

OK first off, the USSR never had a universal basic income. They were just a tyrannical regime who devoted the government toward giving asspats to their buddies in the inner circle. They were the Republican Party, calling themselves communist. Every time a UBI has actually been implemented, it's worked great, with not one single kulak sent to the gulag. Secondly, currency does not work that way. The government just prints money. It doesn't spend taxes. Tax dollars are effectively just money burned, in order to limit inflation. So no, there's no risk of being "unable" to pay a UBI. The only consideration should be how much money to print in order to maximize quality of life for the country. Anyone expecting to be paid back at the expense of that is delusional. So a UBI would not make it where the poor cannot eat properly. It would just switch the dynamic so sellers have to react to increased wages, rather than wage increases reacting (with a delay) behind price hikes by sellers. That delay is stolen money, and a UBI would end that theft. Personally I think that it's ridiculous to make it so the criteria for "who starves to death" is how much money you have. So food shouldn't cost money. We can figure out other ways to decide who gets the food produced. But if you must sell food, for money, then a UBI has (in every case) been shown to improve things overall. It's the difference between a billionaire having "literally infinity times" the buying power of someone with no income, to "only a billion times" the buying power. Poor people might see prices rise, but they already have $0 to pay for anything, so it doesn't matter how high or low the price is.

Also Meta filed a sanctions motion alleging that Wynn-Williams violates the emergency arbitration order “any time she appears in public in a place where she should know that her book is available for sale and her presence might draw attention to it”. In her next book signing, she should be hidden behind a veil, in complete privacy for the whole thing. Devotees can submit the holy text under the edge of it for her to privately and not publically sign.

Yeah, like the right/authoritarian/fascist side is dead set on burning the planet to bring back slavery, so they're kind of making it a polarized issue since Greta et al look extreme in comparison. You can't have shades of grey when someone is demanding megadeath of everything because he owns you. It's still valuable to sympathize with people who are endebted/invested in this stuff, and give them a way out. But denying that they're a death cult and framing it as "environmental concern" is dangerous.

So apparently some guy named Mike Johnson told the US Senate that they can't come to work for the next 3 months straight, conveniently after the midterm election is done. They were about to fire Pete from ruling over the Pentagon, but then Mike stepped up and said, "Nope! No one can work anymore!" And the response of every US senator, including the one you elected, was "OK Mr. Jones. Have a lovely day!" And then they all meekly shuffled out of the Capitol Building to enjoy their three month paid vacation. ... #politics #FuckEverything

Or you could go with the prosecutor's much more reasonable claims. That he put child pornography on his phone and then carried it across the border so that when they demanded his passcode, he would give them the passcode to erase the child pornography. And they didn't need a warrant to demand it because he was like 6 inches on the other side of the border so it's OK.

A self-driving Waymo's remote human operator (because they're not self-driving) imprisoned the passengers in the car and forced them to a secluded location, until the police came to arrest them. Mark me if I'm wrong but taxi drivers are... not supposed to do that, right?

Can't emphasize this enough, with a combination of hormones and dietary adjustments you can control your own growth rate. I don't know about transgender or anything, but any parent who isn't informing their child that they get to decide how short they will be is a bad parent, and someone needs to save that kid from them. If you have to be a certain height forever, you ought to at least have some say over what that height is, and there is no other time in your life you can do so. No technology in the universe is going to change your height after puberty. I mean, there's no shame in being a bad parent. Parenting is hard, and you won't get everything right. But you should accept help from others in that case, if they can help your child in a way you're unable or unwilling to. #rant #biology #parenting

You don't become slave to a state, because the state has no choice. That's why they call it Universal. The state swears to give everyone a salary, and cannot selectively reward or punish anyone. The problem with UBI is that if you don't also include rent control, landlords will just steal it. But with the unlimited economic robbery halted in a given country, a UBI can work pretty well.

It's relatively easy since every file has a last accessed time. Just delete all the files that haven't been accessed in the last 3 months. Oh sorry, were those permanent records? Those should be in your closet, in paper and USB stick form, stored locally not in data centers.

I get really tired of calling it greed. It feels like a cop-out. These people do not want for anything. There's nothing that they hunger for, nothing that they care about. Why are we shaming people for hungering and caring in the first place? What they feel is not greed, but fear. They feel an overwhelming need to control, both because no one ever told them "no" and it drives them mad when people do, and anyone outside their control could (and should) destroy them, for all the harm they've brought to us. The wealthy live lives of luxury, and they're always running, from rivals, and from the horrible things they did, or had done, to be wealthy.

If they only understand managing an underling, why don't they hire a human to do the coding and creating for them? Once again, it's all about slavery. They're just slavers. If AI doesn't slave for them, it doesn't appeal to them.

How do your users know which Public Key belongs to someone they want to communicate with? Put it in their profile. Seriously that's it. You can use a profile metadata field if you want to be formal about it. Why would you need a history of what keys were whose?
