Pls note: the argument is also true about pretty much everything we use and own: anything you use where someone in the production chain (earth itself and her nonhuman inhabitants included) that is not treated as you would want to be treated or paid the wage you are willing to work for, we have effectively stolen. That we use the hidden threat of military violence and other methods to coerce ppl to cooperate changes nothing to the equation. So we should perhaps take a hard look at our lives and see what (probably few) items we buy and what we steal. And act accordingly.

And no, I'm not bring combative , I've been thinking quite a lot about altering out perception of 'enough' and now you trigger the same question coming from a completely different angle so I am genuinely curious how you'd go about defining 'basic'. Is a TV basic? A computer? Subscriptions from Netflix and the likes? Food from the other side of the world? Smartphone? New kitchen every 10 years? One or even two cars? Weekends to foreign counties? Theatre? Museums? Etc etc.

@PaulaToThePeople@climatejustice.social I get where you are coming from . A challenge however might be that poverty is not an absolute thing like distance or temperature; it is a moving target. The UN definition of amount per day is not useful because it does not address spending power. And to my knowledge, a functional description would be a miracle to get left and right to agree on , let alone a functional description that uses degrowth as a basis.

Had never heard of processtheology before, but reading the wikipedia entry it reminds me a bit about discussions on Buddhist concept of emptiness ; how the 'ever moving' or impermanent can be 'connected' to the permanent without the permanent becoming impermanent by the interaction or connection. Interesting stuff!
