@Strandjunker@mstdn.social Nothing shows that the so-called "greatest" institutions and constitutions in the world were actually pretty useless all along, like if it takes only one orange clown to dismantle them.

@aral@mastodon.ar.al @_elena@mastodon.social I wouldn't call them clueless; people like von der Leyen know *very* well, what they are doing.

I booted up Windows on work laptop this fine morning, went to make a coffee and came back. Windows says: Restarting with the indicator spinning for 5 min. Then: Progress X% Keep your computer on. Another 10 minutes, no explanation. Reboots and barks: Installing updates, Keep your computer on.
No user input, no questions about if this is convenient or not. You just stare at it doing whatever it wants.
I don't understand how anyone still pays money for it and puts up with this crap voluntarily.

@0xabad1dea at our company we have quarterly all-staff knowledge transfer sessions that are with big fanfare organized weeks in advance. Last time I was giving a presentation to 50 people and (because of some trouble with multi-monitor support in the nvidia driver in Linux) I booted up Windows on my company laptop. Right in the middle of the presentation it started upgrading from 10 to 11 without asking about my opinions. I mentioned it to the head of IT and he was like: LOL, sorry I guess.. :P

@Cdespinosa@mastodon.social you are forgetting all the economic benefits of US imperialism. Until recently gas prices in the US for example were just a fraction of what the rest of the world has had to pay.
Even in 2002 when I visited the US for the first time I hitchhiked a lot and many people complained that prices like $1.40/gallon were getting unreasonably high, at the same time back in my home country the price was ~1.20-1.30EUR per *liter*.

@AnarchoNinaWrites also I've worked as an IT subcontractor at and visited two local NPPs literally hundreds of times and let me tell you that Homer Simpson as a portrayal of actual people working there isn't entirely inaccurate :P

@DanielaKEngert @vitaut this reminds me of how I've spent most of my weekends and holidays for 11 years helping my parents reconstruct an old house, parts of which was built in the mid 1800s, which they inherited. Most of it was during my teenage years. I lovingly called it the "gulag" :P

@cstross@wandering.shop (sorry if this is too forward). Maybe also ask your ophthalmologist about risks of retinal detachment and what are the symptoms. I didn't know and learned the hard way that cataract surgery and myopia are a major factor in that.
