@admin@burnout.cafeI really am a supporter of free speech and free expressionComically loud incorrect buzzerGay pride is not about publishing gay pornography.Incorrect buzzerDon't we want to cultivate a more "family-friendly" environment that will attract a bigger public?Incorrect buzzer Also this entire post is 100% implying that gay porn is less family friendly than straight porn. No it isn't, this is just a hallmark homophobic talking point. If you don't want porn on your instance, you should be blocking instances that allow it. That's part of the responsibility of being the admin of an instance, which you signed up for when you became an admin of a fedi instance.Uncensored pornography on Free Open Source Software networks is precisely what "Big Tech" points at when they say that only corporate social tools are child-safe. And yet we know that it's not the case.Incorrect buzzer They would move the goalposts, you know that. Also the porn on mastodon.social isn't uncesnored. The content warnings they require is censoring. You just don't want to see gay people fuck nasty on your global timeline because of, vaguely, "The children," which is a classic conservative talking point to engage in censorship, which is what you're attempting to do here. Just block/limit mastodon.social. Lots of instances do. You cannot go through this expecting every server to change their rules because of your own. At least if you are "Really a supporter of free speech, and free expression"

I keep forgetting that art is corrosive to the human soul, and you must get it out. "How did I manage to get the laundry done in one day?" I say after spending several days writing things.

@kasdeya@cryptid.cafe Honestly even as someone who does most things in a terminal, and just boots into a TTY regularly, git and the like are... Not something I even want to try messing with in the command line beyond the basic add/commit commands. Just. Nah I'm good I need a visual for this.

@fesshole@mastodon.social I mean, you do have options, assuming your wife isn't homophobic. If you're gay, not bi, divorce/separation might be the answer, though you could theoretically stay married, and living together if you're cool maintaining a friendship and keeping separate bedrooms. Marriage doesn't have to be a romantic thing, it's a legal contract. But if you're bi, and want to stay with your wife, you could talk about opening the relationship. Usually talking about other people doing it first and gauging the reaction is a good first step, but not the end all be all; it does happen where people aren't okay with it because of their initial "It's wrong/gross" reaction, but put more thought into it when it's their partner asking. The answer may still be no, and you'll kinda be stuck figuring out what you want to do if it is. Uprooting your own, and your partner's lives is a big decision that shouldn't be made lightly

@starsider@valenciapa.ws @astraluma@tacobelllabs.net 568A was the original standard, just called 568, and 568B was added from the AT&T preferred layout. I also believe that they did it in part because crossover cables use A on one side, and B on the other, though crossover cables aren't used much (at least residentially, may have some applications commercially?) anymore. I've never needed one, at least, though I don't work in tech

@starsider@valenciapa.ws @astraluma@tacobelllabs.net From everything I'm finding it seems to boil down to inertia. Since the AT&T 258A cable is ~6 years older than TIA568 it took root in the commercial space, and just stuck, especially since there's no functional difference between the two in straight through cables. At least not one that I can find, there are some things about them for older devices, but that's for landlines and fax machines, neither of which are common now

Also I'm considering adding (some of) my media trackers to the blog. Some of because I have one company in there that I don't feel like giving any free publicity to because their CEO has annoyed me personally. I did try NeoDB, and I may continue using it, but I want to keep my emacs one around because I can feel myself wanting to back off of social media longer-term. This will likely involve me adding automations to this account (just to pull from my blog and push here) while still checking it once in a while, but not scrolling as much/unfollowing some people. It may also involve me moving back to friendica. This instance is on a timer now since omg.lol raised the price, and I'm a little more hesitant about paying $50 for a URL than $20. I'm keeping the klymilark URL though.

@peter_mcmahan@mas.to if you sti want $error $distro searches to work well Linux Mint will likely be a good bet, since at that point it's just popularity. It's still Ubuntu based, so will likely be somewhat familiar, though not the same. I've also helped someone install MX Linux, and CachyOS, and they seem to work well. Cachy is rolling, seems to have a decent community, and I haven't noticed any issues with lid shutting. No clue on zfs though, didn't try that or look for it

@cmccullough@polymaths.social So much this. I've been anti-FF for a long time because my priorities are Privacy > General Morals > Open Source. Part of my morals is being very pro-adult content. Firefox has, for a while, taken a hard stance against pornography, mentioning that you aren't allowed to use Firefox to consume, or distribute, any kind of pornographic material on the same line as saying you can't use it for graphic violence. I cannot use Firefox without violating the legally binding Acceptable Use Policy. I'll keep running Vivaldi, at least they won't sue me for looking at things that most people do. (Sorry, this isn't aimed at you, just a shared frustration from a different angle. Fuck Mozilla)

Just thought to myself "Should I just do my postroll through TTRSS or should I commit to pasting things into a plaintext file to convert to HTML" and let's be honest with myself. As much as I will dislike having to remember to do it, I will probably put it in a plaintext file.

As someone who's used both Arch, and Gentoo, people really do talk about Arch like it's Gentoo. This lead me to thinking (falsely) that it'd be like Arch, but longer install times. Arch has never broken my entire DE on an update before :D Granted, this is because I'm using GNOME with OpenRC, and Some Shit happened with this update, but still. I've been installing KDE since this morning, so... we'll see how that goes. Laptop's ~8 years old, so it may run well, it may run so poorly I'll be installing XFCE tomorrow

If anyone's curious on how to spin a Flemish/Rex mix's fur, the answer is simple: 1: Don't. 2: You're allowed to love yourself. 3: Why would you do this when literally anything else exists But seriously if you do want to spin it, lotta spin. Like a plant fiber amount of spin. The staple length is so fucking short that if you don't spin the hell out of it you won't get far

@siina@social.criminallycute.fi Mine is in emacs, but the organization works in anything. I use something like the Dewey decimal system. 10.00-19.99 gets a folder, then in that 11.00-11.99 gets its own folder, and so on, down to the individual digit. In that I have folders for each individual thing (full projects get one folder, and if I'm taking notes on a video game they usually get one folder each. I have one game that gets its own ID because I had too many notes for it). If you want something obsidian-like, TiddlyRoam is neat. It's a single HTML file that you can put an entire wiki into, with a graph to show links. TiddlyWiki is similar, but without the graph, and featherwiki is similar but designed to be smaller file-wise. All of them you just edit in a browser, and all of them work the same on any device that can load a local HTML file. Beyond that I'm not sure, I haven't looked a whole lot into it once I got emacs+the organization system

@Bredroll@mas.to My particular problem goes back over a decade. It's been against their AUP (which is legally binding) since at least 2014. It may not be the property of the current management, but Mozilla has had this opinion for at least 12 years. There are forks of Firefox which don't take a stance on what you can watch, but those aren't Firefox; they're forks of it. Broadly the recommendations aren't for LibreWolf, Fennec, Tor, etc, they're for Firefox.

Note: My current gaming setup is mostly on the steamdeck, though there will be some testing of games. Notably I will try to run Elin, and probably a visual novel or two. If that passes the test I might try to run something off of itch that's Linux native, and maybe Riichi City. It runs like shit on the T430 with Arch, so we'll see how it does with freebsd
