@mo@mastodon.ml @GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social @WTL@mastodon.social Ah, so I wouldn't gain very much from rewriting it in PHP. Except for a newfound appreciation of headache medication. (tbh I'm using PHP in this example because it's my favourite language, but this headache problem would even be true for rust or go)

I am looking at tutorials for making dashed lines in Photoshop. The tutorials all say that it is easy and straightforward. I want all the people who have presented these instructions and described them that way to look in a mirror and hear these words: FUCK YOU. NO, SERIOUSLY. FUCK YOU.

Saanich Fair was this weekend. Lots of fun! I took this light-painting style photo of the Midway Amusements rides, inspired by a photo I saw a few days ago. #yyj #photography #flickr #saanich https://flic.kr/p/2szFoq4

@GossiTheDog@cyberplace.social @WTL@mastodon.social out of curiosity, which parts of mastodon are the most memory-hungry? E.g., async queue handlers vs serving the actual app

@scribblesonnapkins@mastodon.social @wollman@mastodon.social Right - any distraction from that should be ... well, not applauded, but maybe thumbs-upped. Thumbsed-up.

@Crell@phpc.social Good news: You can also use shebangs for custom interpreters. So you can have php in your dockerfile. I have to imagine there is some sort of drawback to this madness.

I started creating a new hobby project from scratch last night (yes, another one) and I was midway through setting up the web server stack on it (using Caddy) when I realized that everything I'd planned on coding for the code side of things could literally just be a Caddyfile. So that's interesting.

When one of these megacorps (e.g., Oracle) goes belly up, it's going to be like a horrendous whalefall of relentless scavenging, isn't it?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@ScienceScholar/117336146425386459 Rather the point, innit?

Apparently the skunks have rabies now. Don't get too close.

@computer@facts.computer c'mon let's quit teasing it, we have bigger fish to fry. Like AI companies that are vying to build a moat around their services via regulatory capture.

@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social Lately I've been obsessed with a certain genre that gets unfairly lumped in with country. However, it doesn't have a very consistent identity of its own. It's not bluegrass, it's not rockabilly. It's slower and (usually tries to be) more serious. So i created a playlist for it called "Rockawilliam". Some tracks: Ryan Kickland - In Trouble Townes Van Zandt - Lungs Goodnight Texas - Submarines Brown Bird - Bilgewater ... white people blues, I guess?

@mlanger@mastodon.world I read some of that book. It was fine. Most of it is probably still true, albeit at a global scale rather than national.

@mlanger@mastodon.world i also read some of a book called "Goliath", about the fall of empires. That might ring more accurately for you.

@mlanger@mastodon.world (I have an issue with incomplete reads of nonfiction books. Careless People is another one I quit, although that was for NOPE reasons - Goliath and Factfulness, I just ran out of time on my library loan)

@analogfusion@c.im Some folks could take lessons from garron in that department. https://youtube.com/shorts/eclsjhfXX1c

@Taffer@mastodon.gamedev.place @worktree@mastodon.social Yeah, I guess I'll have to move to them or WHC. Maybe fullhost. I'll start with my oldest stuff, since it needs a refresh anyway.

@SarahFrumento@socialbc.ca Yep; ride timing made it difficult to get both in motion. I have a few of the wheel turning, too. Might post one later.

@SarahFrumento@socialbc.ca Thanks! Here's another one :)

@ramsey@phpc.social @m1ke@phpc.social I tried it so you don't have to: don't try it.

@paulshryock@phpc.social keep it up! I was inspired by your project and wrote some quick test-framework-like assertions & added tests in one of my CLI script projects, and immediately found a bug: https://codeberg.org/whateverthing/mang-and-dang/src/branch/main/run-tests.sh So it's definitely worth building. :)

@mcc@mastodon.social Romulan Ale is known by Starfleet Section 30 to cause nanite infestation.

@mikej@mastodon.online Congrats!

@grmpyprogrammer@yac.grumpy-learning.com Hmm. Examples?

@ajroach42@retro.social @grmpyprogrammer@yac.grumpy-learning.com I 🖤 XFCE and Fluxbox. And Waimea. I mean, I haven't used any of them for 20+ years, but if anything that is a point in their favour given how the industry is going.

@jbqueru@floss.social I don’t like sand. It’s coarse and rough and irritating… and it gets everywhere.

@saramg@fosstodon.org *hug*

Tired: "I have to pee" Wired: "I have to feed the AI"

@chris@mstdn.chrisalemany.ca @MatWright@mastodon.social would that really be such a bad thing?

@jalefkowit@hachyderm.io @kf@666.glitchwit.ch You'll be happy to know that I am currently interested in neither.

@allenbrunson@mastodon.world @mhoye@cosocial.ca as someone who prefers coding in interpreted languages almost exclusively, it does make me sad that end user deliverability is so janky. I'm working on setting up an old project to use some recent tech that can help work around that. Fingers crossed. :) ("static-php-cli" is the recent tech)

@MatWright@mastodon.social i wonder why they didn't mention his stint in prison .....

@thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io @wollman@mastodon.social (it may not be the human who is kicking off the process that is making those choices)

@joshsusser@autistics.life Oh, was it me? I do tend to link people to "justsimply . dev" every once in a while, but usually only in reference to technical documentation where it *is* a microaggression - albeit an entirely unintentional verbal tic form of one.

@rachel@tech.lgbt "I’m so lost and confused" - I'm sorry to hear this. I've been feeling sort of the same about the industry in general, but to have the feeling instilled so strongly at a conference that is supposed to be about the thing it's named after, I can only imagine the feelings of sorrow and discomfort that must bring. :(

@mlanger@mastodon.world some cities have currency conversion businesses, I guess those would benefit? If it's a $100 bill that they're specifically refusing, then that might be for counterfeiting reasons. That and the counterfeit $20 have been a huge problem for years.

@joshsusser@autistics.life ah, yes, ain't that just like rando behaviour.

@offby1@wandering.shop @gnuconsulting@hachyderm.io @ehashman@cloudisland.nz yes, but doesn't NetBSD have such a policy?

@jamesjefferies@mastodon.me.uk @annika@xoxo.zone @davidcelis@xoxo.zone Ehh ... I don't think they've gone off on a fascist one, but they have done some AI-friendly stuff.

@annika@xoxo.zone eww. Well, at least they are labelled. (It screams to me "we've never made these meals before and we don't care enough about what we're doing/how they look", or in other words, it says their food is as much meaningless slop to them as the imagery is.)

@mcc@mastodon.social that's eerie

@grmpyprogrammer@yac.grumpy-learning.com Hmm. It's been a while, but I vaguely recall them drifting in and out of being jerkfaces. So it could be the writing intending them to be that way.

@grmpyprogrammer@yac.grumpy-learning.com tabarnak.

They want you to believe that resistance is futile. They want you to _feel_ that, in your bones. That's how they win.

@cwebber@social.coop so what I'm hearing is that I should absolutely continue to make references to entertainment from the previous century as though it is universally understood. Kevin, his television references unrelenting.

@paulshryock@phpc.social a pretty simple root domain bouncer with https and a flexible config file. Nothing spectacular.

@mlanger@mastodon.world LOL at this comment: " Using Pangram as the ultimate AI arbiter is like when a cop commits a crime and the department assures us they’re going to do a thorough internal review "

@annika@xoxo.zone As a PHP developer, I have noticed this as well and I find it extremely irksome. But I haven't had the energy to make content of my own to compete with it.

@ryan@social.miyaku.media @mcc@mastodon.social @gifs_bot@mas.to Victoria BC, eh? Hmm.
