RE: https://toot.cat/@devopscats/116933217149376349 Back in the 80s, when Friday long lunches were still a thing. My work place deemed that if you weren't back by 3pm, that you'd taken the afternoon off. On the grounds you'd do more damage than good. Also, the Friday/last work day before long weekends, especially Christmas and Easter, there was a change moratorium.

France 'moved' 129 tonnes of gold from New York to Paris, between July 25 and January 26.

It's only become public in the last few day.

I'm not surprised it happened.

Interesting who's covering it. Online website, some far-right media and Chinese media.

@dalfen@mstdn.social I think the core question is, is China on the developing to a highly-developed, mixed market economy path OR is the Chinese model fundamentally different (until the oligarchs can achieve state capture)? I'm leaning to the latter. China can out perform dumb markets/self interested oligarchs. The US gets dragged until it can find an FDR, and the oligarchies have spent 60 years preventing an FDR arising.

@dalfen@mstdn.social "How much do you have to invest?" Update: Actually if it's *government* money, not Trump and cronies taking private stakes, it's good policy in principle. It's what China does, for sectors they are actively developing in the current 5 Years Plan. The problem is, you know Trump & co don't have the situational awareness to do strategic industrial policy in any time frame.

@Old_IT_geek Before the change of government, The Voice had 60% support across many surveys. It ended with 40% support. That change happened in 17 months. As soon at the new government was elected, the far right, supported by donors including big miners rolled out a long planned FUD campaign. Much like the 'land rights will take your backyard' FUD campaign in the 90s.

A hidden part of McCarthyism. Pressure employer/associates to dismiss and Blacklist any one who's a threat to Wall Street elites.

Seems that Ms Tame was black listed as a public speaker.

Similar happens in Australian media. Assertive leftists and subject experts who don't take shit from right panelists*, don't get asked back. Only the meek get return visits. Seen this happen on The Drum and Q+A.

The Australian Liberal Party are also members of the IDU.

In fact the current Chairman is Stephen Harper (Conservative Party of Canada) and the current Deputy Chairman is Brian Loughnane (Liberal Party of Australia)

Founder in 1983.

@glent@aus.social@stufromoz@aus.social Too much of the history of the first half of the 20th century, has been forgotten since 1980, due to Reaganomics. People also forget Keynes' role in WWI & WWII. While he helped friends get Conscientious Objector Status and abhorred war, he worked in Treasury to finance and shorten both. He understood the scope and scale of war economy and the need to kerb private [especially luxury] consumption. The idea of limiting and banning right to repair, he would find to be idiotic
